Rumor: Michael Sheen May Play Blofeld in James Bond 23?!

Blofeld / Michael Sheen

Don't take this news too seriously. British newspaper The Guardian is reporting that actor Michael Sheen has been cast in the upcoming Bond 23 as Blofeld, the leader of the evil organization SPECTRE. Well, their article actually says this comes from the Daily Express, although this is the kind of rumor I'd expect someone like The Sun to come up with. They say that, "Michael is hot property right now and it is felt that he's the right man to bring Blofeld back to life." Really? Come on, they just announced the screenwriters for Bond 23 last week, do you really expect them to have official casting as well, especially without a director?

Shia LaBeouf Says Spielberg is 'Gearing Up' Indiana Jones 5

Shia LaBeouf and Indiana Jones

We all knew it was going to happen - Spielberg would make Indiana Jones 5 whether we wanted it or not. But we haven't heard much about it and I think a lot of people were hoping that they would've just given up by now. But that's not the case. In a recent interview with the BBC, Shia LaBeouf says, "Steven [Spielberg] just said that he cracked a story on it before I left and I think they're gearing that up." He doesn't say much else, except that there are "definitely no special effects in that movie," but it's enough of an update to remind us that this is indeed coming soon, whether you like it or not. Let's hope it's better than the last one.

Finnish Nazis-on-the-Moon Movie 'Iron Sky' Gets Funding

Iron Sky Concept Art

Check out that concept! The project, titled Iron Sky, has finally secured the last bit of funding it needs to moved forward. The Finnish Film Foundation has given them the last $1.1 million that was necessary; other financiers include Walt Disney Finland and Finnish broadcaster YLE as well as co-producers 27 Film Production in Germany and Film & Music Entertainment in the U.K. The movie, as you expected, is a genre spoof about a group of Nazis who escaped to the moon before the end of World War II and are planning a new Fourth Reich. Shooting will start in January with a cast of German second-tier stars for a 2011 debut.

Must Watch: International Trailer for Heitor Dhalia's Adrift

Adrift Trailer

I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am to feature this trailer today! Adrift is a little foreign gem I discovered at Cannes thanks to my friend Eric of IONCinema. As time has passed since that fest came to an end, this film has been prominently on my mind for many reasons, most importantly the amazing visuals, the wonderful score, and Vincent Cassel's great performance. Luckily, this trailer gives you a glimpse at all of that, even though it's in Portuguese and features French subtitles. You may not understand the dialogue, but you can certainly understand what's going on. This is a great first look that you just have to see.

Are You Ready for Some Danny Trejo Machete This Year?

Machete

Back in April, Robert Rodriguez announced that he would officially be making Machete, the full-length version of the Grindhouse trailer starring Danny Trejo. Its a project that Trejo has been talking about ever since Grindhouse flopped back in early 2007. But we didn't know it would actually happen until April. Then we started hearing that Rodriguez would be rebooting Predators and that he had a sci-fi action movie called Nerveracker in the works, as well as other projects like Sin City 2 and The Jetsons. So will it still happen? Yep, definitely! Trejo told Gordon & The Whale (via The Playlist) that they'll begin shooting in 5 weeks.

Pirates of the Caribbean screenwriter Stuart Beattie will make his directorial debut with an adaptation of Tomorrow, When the War Began. Natalie Portman Joins Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan Project

Darren Aronofsky and Natalie Portman

It's looking like the next movie from Darren Aronofsky won't necessarily be RoboCop. THR announced tonight that Natalie Portman has been cast as the lead in Black Swan, a ballet project that Aronofsky has been attached with for a few years. It was originally setup at Universal but has been recently making the rounds at other studios since it never get off the ground there. The script for this was originally written by John McLaughlin, who wrote Man of the House in 2005 and has been working on a Splinter Cell script. Mark Heyman, a development exec at Aronofsky's Protozoa Pictures, did a rewrite of that draft recently.

Leonardo DiCaprio Set to Take on the World of Online Poker

Leonardo DiCaprio

Might this become the unofficial sequel to Rounders? Paramount has picked up an untitled pitch from Brian Koppelman and David Levien that takes place in the world of online poker. Leonardo DiCaprio will be developing this through his company Appian Way and is set to star in the lead role. Koppelman and Levien last write The Girlfriend Experience for Steven Soderbergh as well as Ocean's Thirteen, Walking Tall, Runaway Jury, Knockaround Guys, and Rounders. Let's hope this project will take them all the way back to their poker roots. No director is attached yet and no start date has been set, but it sounds interesting.

Chilling Official Trailer for Dolphin Documentary The Cove

The Cove Trailer

This trailer will give you the chills. The Cove is a documentary that has been making waves (pun intended) ever since debuting at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. It's about a secret cove of the coast of Japan where dolphins are being killed by thousands and harvested for their meat. The documentary follows a group of activists as they organize an Ocean's Eleven-like operation to setup hidden cameras and finally document on tape the horrors that are occurring there. It went on to win the Audience Award at Sundance and has been receiving a lot of positive attention. With that said, you need to watch this, it looks incredible!

Discussion: What if Paramount Merged with Sony or Universal?

Sony Pictures - Paramount Pictures - Universal Pictures

This isn't news - it's all a rather crazy claim from a Wall Street investor. But there is a great discussion worth having. In a Forbes article published yesterday, veteran investor Mario Gabelli claims that "Viacom Inc's Paramount Pictures could merge with Sony Pictures, Universal Studios or another movie studio amid a wave of consolidation in the industry over the next few months." It's a very lofty prediction, especially since Paramount is one of the studios who is doing very well right now (and will be doing even better when Transformers 2 opens next week). But the discussion is whether this could be beneficial if it ever happened.
