Timur Bekmambetov Prepping Wanted 2 to Shoot This Year

Timur Bekmambetov - Wanted

I guess we won't see Moby Dick anytime soon. Russian director Timur Bekmambetov spoke to the Russian outlet RIA Novosti (translated via Russia-IC) recently and told them that he's starting prep on Wanted 2 soon. "In July we will start preparation for the film. I think in the late autumn or winter shooting will be performed," he says. "The shooting will take place in America, India and Russia." We last heard about the sequel back in April when it was announced that Pooh's Heffalump Movie writer Evan Spiliotopoulos had been hired to write a script based off of a story by Wanted writer Chris Morgan.

First Trailer for Michael Moore's Wall Street Documentary

Michael Moore's Wall Street Documentary

Save our CEOs! Overture Films has debuted the trailer for the new documentary from Michael Moore. After tackling topics such as gun control, George W. Bush, and health care, Moore's focus this time is on our economy. Don't be alarmed, this is only just a teaser and there isn't supposed to be footage. If you read our post earlier, this is the same thing. Like him or hate him, this is a pretty damn creative way to introduce the concept for this doc and play with the audience. A few theaters in NY, LA, Chicago, and DC actually have an "interactive" portion where ushers bring out bins to collect money in the audience. Take that, Wall Street!

Michael Moore Plays a Trick on Movie Theater Audiences?

Money Collection

What the heck is going on? I was told that there was a trailer for the new Michael Moore documentary that would be attached to showings of Taking of Pelham 123 this weekend. It'll be online in a few hours, but not all audiences will see it. SlashFilm has a report of a showing in Washington DC that had a message from Moore. Apparently signs saying that they were being recorded were plastered all over. Instead of a trailer with footage, Moore appeared on the screen and asked the audience to give their money to "needy banks and corporations." Ushers then entered the theater with buckets literally asking for money from the audience.

Moon Hits Theaters in NY and LA Today - More Cities Soon!

Moon

If there is one movie you just have to go see this weekend, it's Moon. Directed by first-time filmmaker Duncan Jones, Moon stars Sam Rockwell as an astronaut working alone on the Moon. It's one of those indies that needs as much support as it can get - and if you've been waiting to see it (and live in New York and Los Angeles) now is your chance. However, if you don't live in either of those cities, Sony Pictures Classics has setup a website to let you know when it will be opening in other cities over the next month. I really can't say enough good things about Moon and thankfully I'm not the only one who really loved it.

Must Watch: Official Trailer for The Time Traveler's Wife

The Time Traveler's Wife Trailer

Warner Brothers has finally debuted the long-awaited trailer for The Time Traveler's Wife on Yahoo today. This is the remarkable story of Henry DeTamble (Eric Bana), a dashing, adventuresome librarian who travels involuntarily through time, and Clare Abshire (Rachel McAdams), an artist whose life takes a natural sequential course. As I expected, this is much more of a romance movie than sci-fi or anything else, but that doesn't mean it doesn't look wonderful anyway. McAdams is always great in these roles (need I mention The Notebook?) and it looks like she'll steal our hearts once again. I'll definitely be watching this once it hits!

Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins to Star in John Carter of Mars

Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins

Two stars from X-Men Origins: Wolverine will team up again to head to Mars. Taylor Kitsch, who played Gambit, and Lynn Collins, who played Wolvie's love interest Silverfox, will star in Disney's John Carter of Mars together. Wall-E director Andrew Stanton will be directing a script that he co-wrote with Mark Andrews and Michael Chabon. Kitsch will play the title character, John Carter, while Collins will play Dejah Thoris, the heir to the throne of Mars' Helium kingdom whom he falls in love with. As we announced earlier today, Disney is planning to shoot part of John Carter of Mars in Utah starting in November this year.

Danny Boyle's Next Project Might be About Mountain Climbing?

Danny Boyle

As part of the announcement today that Danny Boyle has signed a three-year deal with Fox Searchlight and Pathe, the LA Times hints that Boyle's next project might be a drama about American mountain climber Aron Ralston. Fresh off of winning the Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire, Boyle has signed a deal with Fox Searchlight and Pathe Pictures, who will co-finance and co-produce all of Boyle's projects for at least the next three years. Boyle previously worked with Searchlight on Slumdog Millionaire as well as 28 Days Later, Millions, and Sunshine, so the two are already acquainted. Should be a great few years for them!

Frost/Nixon's Peter Morgan Hired to Write James Bond 23

James Bond

MGM and EON Productions have announced the writers for the upcoming James Bond 23. Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, co-writers of Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, will return again. They will be joined by the Oscar nominated Peter Morgan, of The Last King of Scotland, The Queen, The Other Boleyn Girl, and Frost/Nixon. I don't think this means we can expect a very political Bond movie, but it does mean it will still remain in very British hands! Daniel Craig will reprise his role as Ian Fleming's James Bond 007 in the film, which will be a MGM release. They have not yet announced a start date for production on this.

Joss Whedon's Short 'n Sweet Response to the Buffy Reboot

Joss Whedon

As you probably now know, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is bound for the big screen once again. As you probably also know, it's not going to have any connection to Joss Whedon's beloved original series. At all. And, as you can probably guess, this has caused quite the rift among Buffy fans. But it's Buffy. Whedon has to be involved somehow. Right? While talking to Entertainment Weekly, Joss Whedon had this to say of the upcoming reboot: "I believe [the producers] did ultimately reach out to my agent after the news broke. I think that's something better left untouched by me. So, I wish them luck." That's it, folks. Short n' sweet!

Trailer for Paul Bettany's Charles Darwin Biopic 'Creation'

Creation Trailer

Part ghost story, part psychological thriller, part heart-wrenching love story, Creation is the story of Charles Darwin and the single most explosive idea in history. This is a brand new trailer that I'm very excited to share with you today, as I didn't even realize this had even started shooting and yet it looks incredible. Paul Bettany stars as naturalist Charles Darwin and Jennifer Connelly as his wife Emma Darwin along with Toby Jones. Besides being a fascinating and controversial story, this looks like it has some stunning visuals and great performances. Thanks to the Telegraph for debuting this. Check it out!

Neil Marshall to Direct Robert Rodriguez' Predators Reboot?!

Neil Marshall - Predator

For some odd reason, I thought Robert Rodriguez himself was going to direct the Predators reboot. But I was wrong. Bloody Disgusting has learned that British filmmaker Neil Marshall, of Dog Soldiers, The Descent, and Doomsday previously, will most likely end up being the director chosen to bring us more Predator mayhem. Rodriguez is still producing and developing the project at Troublemaker Studios with 20th Century Fox overseeing, but apparently Neil Marshall is in negotiations to direct (but hasn't officially signed on). He's very good with creatures and horror, I'll say that, but can he handle big sci-fi action?

Andrew Stanton's John Carter of Mars Shooting in November!

John Carter of Mars

Time flies. It feels like just yesterday when Wall-E director Andrew Stanton would answer every John Carter of Mars question with "we're just working on the script right now." A year later and now it looks like the script is ready. Fortunately it won't take four years to make like at Pixar. The news comes from the NBC station KSL in Salt Lake City, Utah (via SlashFilm). They report that thanks to a new tax incentive in the state, Disney will bring 400 cast and crew to Utah and shoot John Carter of Mars for seven months. While we never got any official confirmation, word is that this will be Stanton's first live-action feature.
