First Photo from Michael Moore's Wall Street Documentary

Michael Moore

Get ready for more controversy - Michael Moore is back. And he may be pulling a Cloverfield! Not only is there a new photo from his new documentary courtesy of USA Today, but we've confirmed that the trailer will be in theaters tomorrow. Here's the most interesting bit - the movie remains untitled. Apparently the trailer even lacks a title as well (it says something like "Michael Moore's New Movie Coming Soon"), similar to the first Cloverfield teaser trailer. Except his monster isn't destroying Wall Street - it literally is Wall Street. "The movie is not going to be an economics lesson; it's going to be more like a vampire movie."

Kevin Lima Remaking Don Knotts' The Incredible Mr. Limpet

The Incredible Mr. Limpet

Warner Brothers is remaking the 1964 family comedy classic The Incredible Mr. Limpet and has hired Enchanted director Kevin Lima to direct. The original film starred Don Knotts as Mr. Limpet, an ordinary man who one day turns into a talking fish. After his transformation, he becomes a hero by helping spot and thwart enemy warships for the Allies during WWII. The original was a live-action-animation hybrid; the remake will also be a hybrid. This update has gone through several iterations, with Robin Williams and Jim Carrey among the actors once under consideration and even Mike Judge at one point attached to direct.

First Look: Eisenberg, Harrelson, and Breslin in Zombieland!

Zombieland First Look

The first few photos from Ruben Fleischer's Zombieland have finally made their online debut courtesy of Ain't It Cool News. This is the upcoming zombie comedy that stars Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Amber Heard, and Abigail Breslin. It's about, well, just finding a way to survive a world overrun by zombies. I expect we'll see a trailer either tomorrow or sometime next week, so stay tuned for that. A few months ago, we sent Kevin Powers out to the set of Zombieland in Georgia. He has a forthcoming report on his whole experience that will probably be up in early July. In the meantime, check these out.

Kristen Stewart's New Look as Joan Jett for The Runaways

The Runaways

This isn't an official photo, and we're trying to stay away from the gossip, but a paparazzi shot of Kristen Stewart sporting a jet black mullet hairdo for The Runaways has made its way online at Jezebel (via SlashFilm). Stewart plays singer and guitarist Joan Jett of the 1970s all-girl rockband band The Runaways. The biopic is being written and directed by Italian music video director Floria Sigismondi. I don't think anyone doubted that Stewart would be able to pull off the look, but it's great to see her looking nothing like Twilight's Bella at all. That photo above is of the real band, you can see the photo of Kristen Stewart below.

Marcus Nispel to Fill In for Brett Ratner on Lionsgate's Conan

Conan - Marcus Nispel

Ever since we heard back in early May that Brett Ratner had been dropped from Lionsgate's new Conan movie, we've been waiting with bated breath (not really) to find out which director would fill in and take over the project. Apparently it's a name we're all familiar with - Marcus Nispel. Over at CHUD they're reporting that their "impeccable source" has confirmed that Nispel has indeed signed on officially to take over Conan. They don't know if they'll still make the August start that producer Joe Gatta said they were shooting for, but they do mention that this means Nispel's The Last Voyage of Demeter will be delayed.

Del Toro Confirms Hugo Weaving and Two Others for Hobbit

Elrond and Gandalf

Now this is an update on The Hobbit worth writing about! Guillermo del Toro appeared as a guest on Simon Mayo's BBC Radio Show yesterday (via TheOneRing.net) and talked a bit about The Hobbit. As I've mentioned before, there's only so much news that del Toro can reveal, since it's so far out and we've already heard pretty much as much as he knows. However, he did confirm that at least three big actors would return - Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Hugo Weaving as Elrond, and Andy Serkis as Gollum. Not that anyone expected we wouldn't see these three return again, but it's a huge relief to hear this from del Toro himself.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura Responds to G.I. Joe Rumors and Accusations

G.I. Joe Movie

Earlier this morning we ran an article about a rumor that G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra director Stephen Sommers had been fired mid-way through post-production. The story originally came from a user on the Don Murphy Message Boards. I don't want to claim that he doesn't know what he is talking about, but without additional confirmation, there's no way we can be certain any of it was true. I was awoken this morning by calls from Paramount, as they're claiming that it's all false. In order to squash the rumor, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura (who is involved) answered some questions for Latino Review.

Peter Jackson Pledges to Shoot in 3D From Now On

Peter Jackson

So 3D really could be the future after all. Our friends over at MarketSaw interviewed 3ality Digital Systems CEO Steve Schklair recently and picked up an interesting bit of news. Schklair told them that "we were recently down in New Zealand with Peter Jackson, who is committing to shooting his films in 3D, and will be working with our rigs and technology to do so." Not that this is a big shocker, but it looks like Peter Jackson has jumped on the 3D bandwagon and has pledged to shoot in 3D from now on as well, just like James Cameron and (I think) Steven Spielberg. But this doesn't exactly mean we'll see The Hobbit in 3D.

Don't Watch: Trailer for Old Dogs with Travolta and Williams

Old Dogs Trailer

Disney has debuted the trailer for Old Dogs today on MSN. From the director of Wild Hogs (which is already a bad sign) comes a new comedy starring John Travolta and Robin Williams. I hate to say it, but this is really one of the worst looking movies this entire year. I don't know how anyone thinks this stupid physical comedy is even funny anymore. Maybe this would've got a few laughs out of me in 1994, but nowadays, it really is just painful to watch. Old Dogs looks like one big contrived, unfunny piece of crap comedy that I know I definitely won't be seeing. I never saw Wild Hogs and I don't plan on seeing this.

Rumor: Stephen Sommers Fired Mid-Way Through G.I. Joe?

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

This sounds like the kind of story we'd usually hear coming from Fox, but this time it's Paramount. A user on the Don Murphy Message Boards (via Latino Review) has posted an unverified story detailing a behind-the-scenes fiasco regarding the upcoming G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra movie. You can read their full write-up below, but in essence they're claiming that director Stephen Sommers was fired and locked out of the editing room mid-way through post-production by a Paramount exec named Brad Weston. And that's just the start, as he goes on to explain everything that has transpired since Sommers was supposedly fired.

Justin Theroux Set to Direct Universal's Chief Ron Movie

Justin Theroux

From actor to writer to director. Justin Theroux, who first started out as an actor and starred in David Lynch's two most recent films, is set to direct his second feature, titled Chief Ron, for Universal. After directing the Mandy Moore indie drama Dedication in 2007, Theroux ended up co-writing Tropic Thunder with Ben Stiller. When that became a huge hit, he was hired by Marvel to help write the screenplay for Iron Man 2. Now he's back in the director's seat with Chief Ron, a comedy about a conman who claims he's Mohegan in an attempt to open a casino. I'm already digging the concept and I barely know what it's about.

Deadworld Zombie Comic Being Adapted by David Hayter

Deadworld

In addition to voicing Solid Snake, David Hayter is a screenwriter credited on X-Men, The Scorpion King, X2, and Watchmen. Variety reports that Hayter has signed on to write and develop an adaptation of Image Comics' Deadworld zombie comics. Bill Mechanic will produce and co-finance with Framelight. Mechanic brought on Hayter in hopes of turning the story into a franchise and the project ended up being a perfect fit for Dark Hero Studios, a company which Hayter formed with Benedict Carver. Aside from writing the script, Hayter will conceive and design the look of the film. The plan is to begin production sometime next year.
