Screenwriter Gary Ross Hired for Lance Armstrong Biopic
If there is one biopic I'd absolutely love to see, it's one about cyclist Lance Armstrong, who is one of the most amazing individuals on the planet, both in terms of physical strength and in what he has achieved with Live Strong. Columbia Pictures has been trying to develop a biopic about Armstrong for a number of years, but its never really gotten too far along. However, THR reports today that Oscar nominated screenwriter Gary Ross (Big, Pleasantville, Seabiscuit) has been hired to write a new script based on Armstrong's first book, "It's Not About the Bike." The project is being developed by Indiana Jones producer Frank Marshall.

Check This Out: Official Website for District 9 Launched
Sony has launched an official website for the upcoming District 9. This site is not a part of the on-going viral, it's just designed to promote the movie itself. I'm featuring it not only as a way of keeping District 9 in the headlines, but because it's a gorgeous site. When you first launch it, it loads a beautiful panoramic view of the slums that can be rotated in 360°. There are also some photos and info that can be found on the site, but nothing else new (besides what you see above). If you're looking forward to this or just want to see what a beautiful official website should look like, then check it out - district9movie.com. Bravo, Sony!

Must Watch: First Trailer for Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island
Paramount has debuted the first official trailer for Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Emily Mortimer, Michelle Williams, Max von Sydow, and Jackie Earle Haley. It looks like Scorsese has finally decided to take on Hitchcock head on, and DiCaprio may finally get that Oscar he's been waiting for. Shutter Island is the first movie we've seen anything from that is a big Oscar contender this year. And wow does it look incredible. The performances all seem exceptional, DiCaprio and Kingsley especially, and I really can't wait to see this story unfold under Scorsese's direction.

J.J. Abrams Will Return to Produce Mission: Impossible 4!
We've heard rumblings of a Mission: Impossible 4, but nothing official yet. However, SpoilerTV has a scan from the latest issue of TV Guide where a little blurb on the "The Next 'Mission'" mentions that J.J. Abrams is back as a producer. "I am incredibly honored that Tom [Cruise] has invited me back as a producer on Mission Impossible 4," they quote Abrams as saying. Not much else was revealed, except that Tom and J.J. are looking for a screenwriter and that it's uncertain whether J.J. might be interested in directing this (although I doubt it). "Tom and I have come up with a really cool idea we are pursuing."

Second Trailer for Robert Rodriguez's Kids Movie Shorts
Warner Brothers has debuted the second trailer for Shorts, the new kids movie from Robert Rodriguez. The first trailer debuted back in April. This second one follows that one up with a lot more finished CGI and visual effects shots. The concept is simple - a group of kids get their hands on a wishing rock in the town of Black Falls, but when it falls into the wrong hands (read: adults), all heck breaks loose. It looks very fun, but maybe only fun if you're a kid, so I don't know if I'll like it. I'm not necessarily a fan of Rodriguez's kids films (like Spy Kids), but I'll probably see this in theaters anyway. Watch the new trailer on Nick right now!

Sony Takes a Tour of New York's Secret Subway Tunnels
I haven't had a chance to talk about The Taking of Pelham 123 yet, which I've seen and thoroughly enjoyed, so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity. Sony recently coordinated a tour of the secret tunnels that are a part of the New York City subway system as a promotion for Pelham. Why? Well, the last third of the film involves some of these secret tunnels, and I guess it was a sly way of proving that it all actually exists (and wasn't just made up for the sake of storytelling). Alas, I'm in Los Angeles and not New York, but a few other sites did attend and have published great write-ups, like UGO and ComingSoon.

The Weekly Moviegoer - Watching Terminator with Motion Seats
As much as I enjoyed Terminator Salvation for what it is, I left the movie theater thinking I'd never have reason to watch it again. But I was wrong. Last week, while visiting my grandmother in Arizona, I felt compelled to revisit the relatively disappointing yet sufficiently entertaining sequel when I drove out to the Ultrastar Cinemas Surprise Pointe 14 movie theater in Surprise, AZ, for a first-hand trial of the new D-Box motion seats. I previously wrote about these fun auditorium furnishings a couple months ago in a column about cinema gimmicks, but I just had to experience the seats for myself. And how was the experience?

Mark Millar Says They're Already Planning for Kick-Ass 2!
We haven't heard, or seen, much from Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass recently, the big screen adaptation of Mark Millar's comic series. Vaughn is currently in post-production finishing up editing and I think he isn't planning to even sell it to a studio until it's completely 100% finished. Late last year we got our first look at some photos from Kick-Ass, which looked great, but besides those, we haven't seen a trailer or any footage or any posters or much at all. Which is why it's odd that they're already talking about a sequel. Or so Mark Millar mentions in a recent interview with SciFi Wire. He even thinks it could be a bigger hit than Wanted.

Gorgeous Character Photos from The Princess and the Frog
Disney has debuted five new gorgeous photos from The Princess and the Frog today, their return to hand-drawn animation due out in theaters later this year. The teaser trailer for this has been playing in theaters in front of Pixar's Up, so everyone has finally been introduced to the movie and knows what it's all about, to a certain degree. That teaser does a great job of introducing the concept, but doesn't show much of the supporting characters, like Louis the jazz singing alligator, or Ray the firefly (seen in the corner of the very first photo below). Anyway, take a closer look at all of these beautiful photos below, in high res, too.

Eli Roth Wants to Remake Tobe Hooper's The Funhouse
As much as I'm looking forward to seeing Eli Roth bring us his sci-fi action flick Endangered Species, we can't forget that he's still a horror director. One of the other projects he's got on his slate is a remake of The Funhouse, a creepy horror film from 1981 directed by Tobe Hooper. Roth revealed to Fangoria that he's currently "talking with Universal about that one." I'm not familiar with the film, but apparently Roth is a big fan - at least of half of it. "The Funhouse is a movie where the first half is brilliant—they set up these great characters—and then they pay off none of them." We'll let him explain what he wants to do in this remake.

Beautiful Official Poster for Shane Acker's 9 Finally Revealed!
Focus Features has finally debuted the official poster for Shane Acker's 9, the animated movie featuring the voices of Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly, Crispin Glover, Christopher Plummer, and Martin Landau. This arrives just a week or so after we featured a Russian poster for 9 that other websites also praised. This really is a beautiful poster and I'm so glad to see Focus Features end up choosing a wonderful design like this. I'm also happy to see that this got a PG-13 rating, which definitely means that it'll be very dark and edgy. Thanks to our good friends at Film School Rejects for debuting this beauty today.

Angarano and Eisenberg Sign On for Max Winkler's Ceremony
Guillermo del Toro isn't the only one mentoring up-and-coming filmmakers - Jason Reitman is doing the same, too. Reitman will produce a comedy called Ceremony which will be the directorial debut of Max Winkler. Michael Angarano (Snow Angels) and Jesse Eisenberg (Adventureland) are signing on to play the two friends that the film is about. When one of them (Eisenberg) falls for an older woman about to be married, he drags along his friend (Angarano) to a beach town in an effort to break up the wedding. Upon arriving, they quickly realize just how out of place they are among the British groom-to-be and his guests.
