No One is Talking About Inception, Not Even Marion Cotillard

Marion Cotillard

Everyone is dying to know what the heck Christopher Nolan's new movie Inception is all about (at least I am). The only plot description we have is that it's a "contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind." With some of his cast out talking to press recently - like Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard - we were expecting someone to say something, but it's just not happening, they're all staying quiet. The only person saying anything is Clifton Collins Jr., and that's only because he's friends with Leonardo DiCaprio (and was offered a role in Inception that he didn't get). How about Marion Cotillard?

Zak Penn Talks About Collaborating for The Avengers Movie

Zak Penn - Avengers

There's been quite a bit of talk about The Avengers recently, mainly coming from Marvel Studio's Kevin Feige, but there is one person we haven't heard from in a while - screenwriter Zak Penn. Penn has been attached as the screenwriter of Marvel's Avengers movie for a long time, and now that it's slated for 2012, he's starting to work on it (again). Penn appeared on a panel as part of the Los Angeles Film Festival last night and SciFi Wire has a report on some of the things he said in relation to The Avengers. He's meeting with Marvel and the screenwriters of the other big upcoming movies to "piece together the storylines."

Marc Webb's 500 Days of Blogging #1 - Dudes in Love

Marc Webb's 500 Days of Blogging

I was skeptical. Last year after the second test screening of a rough cut for 500 Days of Summer – a rogue but fortunately very positive review popped up on the website, FirstShowing.net. It was so good, in fact, I thought it may have been written by someone involved with the movie which would have completely sucked any meaning out of the praise. I shot off an email to the host and that's how I first met Alex. Thankfully neither the reviewer nor Alex himself had any affiliation with our film. I'm here to change that. It turns out Alex grew up in Colorado Springs - the same city where I went to school at Colorado College.

Watchmen Director's Cut Will Hit Theaters on July 17th

Watchmen

This isn't an official announcement (I don't know why Warner Brothers hasn't made one yet), but our good friend Frosty over at Collider talked with Zack Snyder himself today and got re-confirmation that the extended Director's Cut of Watchmen will indeed be officially hitting theaters on July 17th, the weekend before Comic-Con. He confirmed that it will only show for one weekend in one theater in only Los Angeles, Dallas, Minneapolis, and New York City. So if you live in one of those four cities, you'll want to make sure you buy your tickets in advance for this re-release. I know I'm already planning to be there!

Next Year's Oscars will Include 10 Best Picture Nominees!

Oscars

This is huge news. The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences announced today, that as of next year for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards, for the first time in 67 years, they will choose ten Best Picture Nominees instead of just five. "Having 10 best picture nominees is going allow Academy voters to recognize and include some of the fantastic movies that often show up in the other Oscar categories but have been squeezed out of the race for the top prize," said Academy president Sid Ganis. This isn't the first time they've chosen ten nominees. Up through 1943, the Oscars included ten Best Picture nominees as well.

Johnny Depp Might Have Dark Shadows in His Future

Johnny Depp - Dark Shadows

Sure, Alice in Wonderland hasn't come out yet (hell, it's not even finished), but what's coming up next for Johnny Depp? In a recent conversation with Collider, the actor revealed that his next project will most likely be the adaptation of the gothic soap opera Dark Shadows. Here's the news straight from Depp: "Dark Shadows is happening. Tim [Burton] is working on Alice in Wonderland which is obviously quite a large piece of work there. So when Tim is done with Alice and we get the script, which is very, very close, in order we'll probably attack it next year. It's exciting, very exciting. It's like a lifelong dream for me."

First Footage and Photos from Avatar Revealed at CinExpo!

James Cameron's Avatar

This is the moment we've all been waiting for. Finally, after years of waiting, the first footage from James Cameron's Avatar was screened to public for the very first time in Amsterdam earlier today as part of the Cinema Expo International. While we weren't there in person, one of our good friends was, and so were plenty of others. This is what we've been waiting for because it's the first time we'll know whether or not it lives up to the hype. From what I've heard, it definitely does. "Beautiful!" "Stunning!" "Game-changing!" "Unlike anything ever seen!" Those are some of the responses from people leaving after the presentation.

Fincher's Facebook Movie is Actually Based on Ben Mezrich's Book

The Accidental Billionaires

When the news hit yesterday that David Fincher, of all people, was going to direct Aaron Sorkin's script about Facebook called The Social Network, most people flipped out. There's just no way a project about Facebook would be worthy of a director like Fincher. However, I just knew there was something more to it, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Thankfully my friend Peter from SlashFilm gave me a call to let me know that he discovered that Sorkin's script is actually based on a book called "The Accidental Billionaires" that was written by Ben Mezrich - the same guy who wrote the book that blackjack movie 21 was based on.

Check This Out: Pierre Morel's From Paris with Love Poster

From Paris with Love Teaser Poster

Of all the big things to talk about tonight (like Avatar or Transformers 2), I don't expect that many people to care about a little action movie from France. But then let me remind you that this is the next movie from the same guy who brought us Taken - Pierre Morel. From Paris with Love stars John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers as "partners." Well, not exactly. Travolta plays a crazy American spy looking to stop a terrorist attack in Paris, while Rhys Meyers plays a young employee in the office of the US Ambassador who meets up with him. That's the only intro you need. Check out the first teaser poster from IGN below.

Daniel Craig to Star in Jim Sheridan's Thriller Dream House

Daniel Craig

There's a reason we haven't seen or heard from the new James Bond since he starred in Quantum of Solace and then Defiance back-to-back - he's picking his next few roles wisely. However, THR reports today that it's likely Daniel Craig might end up starring in a psychological thriller called Dream House that is to be directed by Jim Sheridan (In the Name of the Father, The Boxer, In America, Get Rich or Die Tryin'). Craig would play a man who moves his family to an idyllic small town, only to find his house haunted by its former inhabitants, who were murdered there. An odd choice for Mr. Bond, but an interesting role nonetheless.

Interview: Transformers 2 Writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman

Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman

If you've been reading the site since January, you know that I love to talk with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. I had a long interview with them in January and then talked with them on video in May about all things Star Trek. Now I'm back again with another interview, this time focusing on Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which hits theaters tonight. Once you've seen it, let's just say that, there are a lot of questions to ask these guys. And I tried to address some of those and get an idea for how this screenplay came together in the midst of the writer's strike. This full interview is, for the most part, spoiler free!
