Fox Hires a New Screenwriter for Another Hitman Movie

Hitman

Why?! That's the first question that popped into my mind. It doesn't really matter who, even if he is a good screenwriter, but why make another one? IESB has confirmed today that 20th Century Fox is looking to continue the big screen Hitman franchise that started in 2007 with a movie directed by Xavier Gens. Kyle Ward, of the upcoming Kane & Lynch movie as well as the upcoming Fiasco Heights, has been hired to write the script. Adrian Askarieh, Daniel Alter and Chuck Gordon will return as producers, but no word yet on whether Timothy Olyphant, who played Agent 47, will be back as well. Is anyone out there excited for this?

David Fincher

Whoa, wait just a minute, David Fincher doing a Facebook movie? This just can't be right, can it? So here's the backstory. Late last year it was announced that "The West Wing" and Charlie Wilson's War screenwriter Aaron Sorkin was working on a project about Facebook called The Social Network. The story will focus on the evolution of Facebook from its 2004 creation on the Harvard campus by sophomore Mark Zuckerberg to a juggernaut with more than 60 million members. Entertainment Weekly breaks the news that Oscar nominated director David Fincher is in early talks to direct this as his next movie.

New CinExpo Posters: Up in the Air, Iron Man 2, and More!

New CinExpo Posters

Cinema Expo International is currently being held in Amsterdam as we speak, and not only was there a presentation for James Cameron's Avatar including the first ever footage shown to public, but a few new posters have popped up online from the showfloor. CinExpo is the European equivalent of ShoWest (which we cover every year). It's an industry event which means it's not meant for the public, but photos like this always leak out anyway. Film1.nl has our first look at posters for Jason Reitman's Up in the Air, M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender, Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island, and Jon Favreau's Iron Man 2.

Warner Bros. and Paramount Pass on Soderbergh's Moneyball

Moneyball

On Sunday we brought you the news that Sony had dumped Steven Soderbergh's Moneyball project just three days before it was set to start shooting. Sony's Co-Chairman Amy Pascal gave Soderbergh and Brad Pitt the weekend to try and shop it around to two other studios - Warner Brothers and Paramount. However, we now learn via the LA Times that both studios turned down the project, sharing "concerns about the film's high budget and limited commercial appeal." I'm amazed that a $50 million project with a star like Brad Pitt and director like Steven Soderbergh could encounter so many problems, but that's Hollywood for you.

Zhang Yimou Remaking the Coen Brothers' Blood Simple

Blood Simple

A while back we reported that Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou, most recently the puppet master behind the 2008 Summer Olympic Games' opening ceremony, but most famously the director of Jet Li's Hero and House of Flying Daggers, was set to move forward with a new film entitled Amazing Tales - Three Guns. It was thought that this may actually be a remake of the Coen Brothers' debut 1984 film Blood Simple -- and it seems that's precisely what it is, according to a new update in THR today. The title has changed (translated from the original Chinese "San Quiang Pai An Jing Qi") to The Stunning Case of the Three Gun Shots.

Christian Bale Getting Ready to Shoot The Fighter Very Soon

Christian Bale

In April we all found out that the former Darren Aronofsky boxing project The Fighter would instead be directed by David O. Russell (Three Kings, I Heart Huckabees) and that Christian Bale had joined the cast as Dicky Eklund opposite Mark Wahlberg. What we didn't know, however, is how soon it would go into production, especially since the project has been moving very slowly up until this point. But while out promoting Public Enemies, Bale told Collider that they "might start [shooting] within a couple of weeks." Even though his first answer to if it was actually going to happen was a much less confident, "I hope it is."

Must Watch: Official US Trailer for Hayao Miyazaki's Ponyo!

Hayao Miyazaki's Ponyo Trailer

Disney has finally debuted the official US trailer for Hayao Miyazaki's latest animated feature, Ponyo, known in Japan as Ponyo on the Cliff. I've been waiting patiently for more than a year now to see this, since it actually hit Japanese theaters last summer. As wonderful as it looks, especially all of the animation, I just can't stand the dubbed voices. Something about hearing English voices when I know I should be hearing Japanese voices throws me off. It's hard for me to watch a Miyazaki movie dubbed and I'm not sure I'll make an exception here. But with that said, this still looks great, like an adventure for the whole family. Enjoy!

First Teaser for M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender

The Last Airbender Teaser

It's about that time of year again when we start to see teasers for next summer. Paramount has debuted the first short teaser trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender based on the popular Nickelodeon cartoon. Yes, this is the very same Shyamalan who brought those thrillers like Signs and Unbreakable. Not only is he making an action adventure movie oriented more towards kids this time, but he's going big, very big, as you'll see in this teaser. Newcomer Noah Ringer stars as Aang. He's joined by Dev Patel, Jackson Rathbone, Cliff Curtis, and Nicola Peltz. Even if you don't know much about this, you'll still want to see it!

Larry Doyle's 'Go Mutants!' Novel Headed to the Big Screen

Larry Doyle

Universal has acquired screen rights to the new Larry Doyle teen comedy/adventure novel "Go Mutants!" Imagine Entertainment producer Brian Grazer will develop, with Doyle writing the script himself. The story is set in a high school where all of the tropes from classic 1950s alien invasion movies came true. Years later, the children of those mutant creatures have assimilated among the other kids. Doyle said the book and the movie invite cameos from '50s monsters like Gort, the robot from The Day the Earth Stood Still, and the creature from the black lagoon. The book won't be published until next summer, so don't go looking for it.

Check This Out: Transformers 2 Luxor Hotel Advertisement

Transformers 2 Luxor Hotel Advertisement

Tonight's the big night. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will premiere in thousands of theaters at midnight across the country. If you haven't been to LA, you probably haven't ever seen entire buildings turned into billboards. There is some crazy advertising out here - and obviously it spreads to other big cities like Las Vegas. TLAMB (via SlashFilm) has posted a few photos of the iconic Luxor Hotel in Vegas wrapped with a giant Optimus Prime. The best part is what it looks like at night lit up (see below). Not to be geeky, but beyond the eyes, the glowing pyramid has multiple meanings, too (once you see the movie).

Tom Cruise and Sam Raimi Still Circling Brubaker's Sleeper

Sleeper

A few of you might remember hearing about this project. It made headlines when we wrote about how Sam Raimi and Tom Cruise would be working together on an adaptation of Ed Brubaker's Sleeper comic book series. Since that story hit in August of last year, we haven't heard anything since, not a word about it, even in all the excessive Tom Cruise updates. So is the project dead in the water? Not exactly. MTV talked with author Ed Brubaker and got a few interesting updates and other funny quotes. "I talked to one of the producers a couple of weeks ago, and they have a new screenwriter that they hired," Brubaker told MTV.
