First Look: Monica Bellucci in Disney's The Sorcerer's Apprentice

Monica Bellucci in Disney's The Sorcerer's Apprentice

I really hate paparazzi photos. They're always completely out of context, we never know if this is how it'll look finished, what they're even doing, or how far into the movie the scene being shot occurs. And as much as I know it's rarely helpful for a film, sometimes we just can't help ourselves, like today. Just Jared posted a few photos of Italian actress Monica Bellucci on the set of Disney's upcoming movie The Sorcerer's Apprentice that also stars Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchel. There have been a lot of paparazzi shots from this floating around because its been shooting in New York City, but I wanted to feature these shots today.

Paul Giamatti in the Trailer for Sophie Barthes's Cold Souls

Cold Souls Trailer

Samuel Goldwyn has finally debuted the official trailer for Cold Souls starring Paul Giamatti as Paul Giamatti. This quirky little comedy, reminiscent of Being John Malkovich in a way, is simply about soul removal. Paul Giamatti wants to remove his soul, so he does so at a new startup company in New York, but then they accidentally misplace it, and he goes to Russia in search of it. Unfortunately, I didn't think this story was as polished as a Charlie Kaufman story, but it's still wacky and fun, in a very cold way. You'll see what I mean in this trailer. Though I do have a desire to revisit this once it hits theaters in a few months.

Another Crazy New Poster for Christian Alvart's Pandorum!

Pandorum Poster

Overture Films has put out yet another new poster for their upcoming sci-fi horror Pandorum directed by Christian Alvart. I don't have too much to say about this - we've seen multiple trailers and multiple posters before already. Obviously they're going all out with these posters and I generally like the gritty, grungy, crazy designs. This isn't my favorite one, but it's an improvement over their last poster with just the arm. I do think the metaphorical idea (of all the screaming in her mind) is a cool concept. But will it actually bring in an audience for this movie? I hope so, because I think this movie looks awesome. We'll see in September!

Sam Mendes Signs a Two-Year Deal With Focus Features

Sam Mendes

Another exclusive first-look deal for a great indie filmmaker. Oscar winner Sam Mendes has signed a two-year first-look deal with Focus Features, who most recently released his indie Away We Go. This deal includes the acquisition of two projects that could be potential directing vehicles for Mendes. One of them is called Butcher's Crossing, an epic adventure based on the 1960 revisionist Western novel by John Williams. The other is Middlemarch, an adaptation of the George Eliot novel about changing fortunes in a provincial English community in the early 1830s. Both of these sound like great new projects for Mendes.

Brody, Whitaker, Wood and Gigandet Join The Experiment

Adrien Brody, Forest Whitaker, Elijah Wood, Cam Gigandet

Now this should be a very interesting cast. Adrien Brody, Forest Whitaker, Elijah Wood and Cam Gigandet have all joined The Experiment, a remake of the German psychological thriller Das Experiment. The original film, directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, is about a psychological experiment where a group of ordinary people are recruited to take on various roles as guards or prisoners. The research study examines how the effects of these assigned roles, power, and control affect the participants. Brody will play the de facto leader of the group of prisoners while Whitaker will play a guard who becomes corrupted by the power he's given.

Must Watch: First Trailer for Ruben Fleischer's Zombieland!

Zombieland Trailer

Two great end of the world trailers in one day! Sony has also debuted the first trailer for Zombieland starring Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson and Emma Stone. This kind of looks like if Adventureland and Shaun of the Dead and I Am Legend were mixed together into one undead comedic masterpiece. Not only does it look like it has a whole lot of great zombie kills in it, but it looks like it might have a great little plot involving Emma Stone. Does she fall in love with Jesse Eisenberg? Does that really matter? Whatever the case, I'm loving this trailer, I can't wait to see it. Killing zombies for fun?! Is there anything better?!

Carey Mulligan Cast in Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps

Carey Mulligan

Last month when we reported that Javier Bardem had joined the cast of Oliver Stone's Wall Street 2, now known as just Money Never Sleeps, there was still one big role that hadn't been cast. In the sequel, Shia LaBeouf plays Jacob, a young Wall Street trader who's engaged to be married to Gordon Gekko's estranged daughter. Latino Review is reporting that British actress Carey Mulligan has been cast as Winnie, Gekko's daughter, not only giving her a chance to break out in a big way, but securing her another "juicy" role (that lots of other actresses wanted) after blowing everyone away in An Education at Sundance earlier this year.

Hold On, Indiana Jones 5 Isn't as Far Along as You Think!

Indiana Jones

So earlier this week, Shia LaBeouf let slip that Spielberg had "cracked a story" on Indiana Jones 5 and that "they're gearing that up." It was pretty big news, especially because some people were thinking we'd never see another one (despite the $787 million that Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull made worldwide). However, that doesn't mean we'll be seeing it that soon. Empire talked with producer Frank Marshall recently, who told them that it's still in very early development. "Until there's a script, nothing's definite," he said. Don't expect to see this shooting by the end of the year... or even next year.

Exclusive: Tony Scott's Hell's Angels is Actually Sonny Barger's Story

Sonny Barger - Hell's Angels

I remember it like it was yesterday. The news that Stephen Gaghan and Tony Scott were adapting Hunter S. Thompson's seminal work Hell's Angels for the big screen. Well, it seems that that isn't entirely accurate. Here are the facts: Stephen Gaghan is indeed writing the screenplay for a film to be directed by Tony Scott. That film is to be titled Hell's Angels. However, this Hell's Angels adaptation is in no way connected to Hunter S. Thompson's book of the same name. Instead, Hell's Angels is the adaptation of Sonny Barger's autobiography Hell's Angel: The Life and Times of Sonny Barger and the Hell's Angels Motorcycle Club.

Official Poster for Bobcat Goldthwait's World's Greatest Dad

Bobcat Goldthwait's World's Greatest Dad

I had the choice to feature one of two indie posters today - and I went with World's Greatest Dad. (The other one was for Patton Oswalt's Big Fan over on Cinematical.) Why? Not because it's necessarily a better poster, but because World's Greatest Dad is a much better movie. I'm not going to go into all the specifics, but to put it simply, World's Greatest Dad is one of the best dark comedies and indie features you'll see all year. I'm pretty sure it still is Neil from Film School Reject's favorite film from Sundance and it's definitely one of the films that I've been anxious to see again (and show everyone). Thanks to NY Mag for debuting it.

Must Watch: Destructive Trailer for Roland Emmerich's 2012

2012 Trailer

Whoa! Roland Emmerich is giving Michael Bay a run for his money! The second full-length trailer for 2012, the apocalyptic end-of-the-world movie, has just hit and it is insanely awesome! I'm trying to contain my enthusiasm, but this is the point where I say screw all the negativity towards Emmerich, I love that guy, because no one else out there goes this big and this crazy with their movies. He really is showing us the end of the world with this one and I love it! You need to watch this, I hate to be so excitable, but this is one of those trailers that you need to drop everything and watch instantly! You won't know what's coming. Enjoy!

Will Smith's Oldboy Stalled Due to Legal Fight Over Rights

Oldboy

Is it just mere coincidence that both the Akira and Oldboy remakes have been stopped? It was only late last year when DreamWorks announced that they were going to remake Park Chan-wook's Oldboy with Steven Spielberg and Will Smith. Fans were very upset, even after they learned that it would actually be a new adaptation of the graphic novel and not a remake of Park Chan-wook's movie. However, according to the Anime News Network, it might not happen after all. Futabasha, the Japanese publisher of the original Oldboy manga, is suing the Korean film production company Show East over the rights to remake the story.
