Animation Wednesday: Second Full Length Planet 51 Trailer
July 1, 2009
Source: Yahoo
by Alex Billington
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs opens today and that means all the other studios (mainly Sony Pictures) are putting out there new trailers for their upcoming animated movies. First up we have the second full length trailer for Planet 51 on Yahoo. Featuring the voice talents of Dwayne Johnson, Seann William Scott, Jessica Biel, Justin Long, Gary Oldman, and John Cleese. The story is a complete spin on the normal sci-fi tale in that an astronaut lands on a planet and discovers a new civilization, except to them, he is the alien. This looks quirky and fun, like any other animated movie. Nice touch with The Killer's "Spaceman", too.

You can also watch the Planet 51 trailer in High Definition on Yahoo
The inhabitants of Planet 51 live in fear of alien invasion. Their paranoia is realized when an astronaut arrives from Earth. Befriended by a young resident, he has to avoid capture and recover his spaceship.
Planet 51 is co-directed by first-time filmmakers Jorge Blanco, Javier Abad, and Marcos Martínez of Ilion Animation based out of Madrid, Spain. The screenplay was written by Joe Stillman, of Shrek and Shrek 2 in addition to episodes of "Beavis and Butt-Head" and "King of the Hill" previously. Sony Pictures is landing Planet 51 in theaters everywhere on November 20th this upcoming Thanksgiving. Will you be seeing it?

ii was in the room when they came up with this movie… the conversation went like this
"we got to write a new family movie… any thoughts?"
"well lets write an alien movie"
"ok but it cant be like ET or all those other family alien movies… so how do we change it up?"
"well lets make all the people aliens, and the alien a person?"
"fucking!…. THAT'S BRILLIANT TED!"

The animation looks really good and at first I thought Pixar is behind it, but it turns out it's a new animation company Ilion Animation Studio. Good to see others do excellent work too.

Definitely does not sound like "The Rock". Still looks good. I was kind of hoping and liked the idea of the mumbling alien (the human) being a faceless astronaut. Now here he is showing his face.

Looks very funny. This could be the Rock's best movie. It really doesn't sound like him though. Wait, he could be acting. That would be a first.

I'm excited…

@17
I was hoping the main character would keep the space helmet on as well. It would be more comical to have him mumbling (or at least make him sound like a Stormtrooper) and playing more on the physical comedy.

Why is Dwayne Johnson playing a white guy? Isn't he black or something?

This looks pretty decent, my kids will definitely want to see it.

In response to d, it is kind of ironic that Dwayne Johnson is playing a white character when he's a brown skinned Hawaiian-Samoan. But I guess it doesn't matter, the kids won't notice or care.
