Must Watch: Awesome New Full-Length District 9 Trailer!
July 8, 2009
Source: Yahoo
by Alex Billington
Are you ready to see this? Sony has just debuted the latest full-length trailer for District 9, the new movie about aliens in South Africa from director Neill Blomkamp. Everyone saw the teaser trailer for this in front of Wolverine, but this new trailer really ups the ante. We finally get to see more of the story and the real intentions of MNU, the government corporation that's attempting to control the aliens. But what's going on with Wikus? So this may exactly not be the next Cloverfield, but it still looks incredible. It's so refreshing to see an original story with some great effects and a whole heap of unknown actors. I can't wait to see this!
Watch the latest full trailer for Neill Blomkamp's District 9:
You can also watch the full trailer for District 9 in High Definition on Yahoo
An extraterrestrial race forced to live in slum-like conditions in Johannesburg, South Africa suddenly find a "kindred spirit" in a government agent from MNU that is exposed to their mysterious biotechnology.
District 9 is both written and directed by first-timer Neill Blomkamp, a South African filmmaker who previously directed the awesome Halo: Arms Race shorts. The screenplay was co-written by Blomkamp and writing partner Terri Tatchell. This project is based on Blomkamp's short film Alive in Joburg, which can be seen online here. Sony will be bringing District 9 to theaters everywhere on August 14th this summer.

awesome trailer..
2 things:
hopefully they show how they can communicate to the aliens
and watchin the trailer again, they should have cut down on the fade in/out shots

Still looks really really awesome but I really liked the feel of the teaser. Now it looks way more sci-fi action filmish; I really liked the documentary feel from the original teaser trailer.

All right, that looks great. The teaser wasn't so hot, but this looks very, very cool. Really like the genre mix - scifi/action/documentary. I'll be there opening night.

Holy sh*t that was awesome and not only will we be getting a gritty sci-fi film, but a potentially kickass action sci-fi film. That mech suit was really badass, but I wonder if there is som kind of new trend in Hollywood with these things since James Cameron's new flick Avatar also has mech suits. Are they making a comback ?

Hey McGruff it is WETA workshop doing it. You think Peter Jackson wouldnt bring them along? lol Another great film they did that didnt get the recognition it deserves is The Host back in 2006. One of the best monster movies in a long while.
I am so psyched for this film. I love the short film and I love this directors attitude that comes off in his work. Should be one of the gems this summer since I have been left disappointed so far…

48
Looks badass. Probably the only movie that Ive been exciting about that won't be, well, adequate, but certainly much more…
Philly is covered in the "warning posters" shown in the trailer. Most of the bus stops, benches, buildings…its pretty sweet…although I'm assuming most cities are like this?
What's even better is the confusion of people trying to decipher them.
Nick B. on Jul 8, 2009
49
I would have went to see this based on the teasers alone, but they amped it up a lot in that new trailer. I found it quite confusing, but that wasn't a bad thing, I still don't fully know what is going to happen in the film, but now I have a better idea.
Also it flipped the idea that the aliens were leaching off Earth, but really they were being kept against their will so that their weapons could be exploited.

Anticipating the drama, seeing a cool preview here and there… dare I say it… WAITING is fun! It builds tension, it makes for a darn good movie too! Imagine this: "Opening credits… ROSEBUD IS HIS SLED"! Thats a heck of a movie!!! NOT!!!! To wait, to have patience and let life unfold. That is the theater experience. And that for me is what District 9 is all about!
Wait we must.

… I looked at most of the previews on youtube and S-H-I-E-E-E-T this sci-fi movie looks like it's gonna KICK ASS - BIG TIME !!! Makes "Transformers" look like "Romper Room"… . Saved the best trailer for you at this link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjihaK7HfGs&feature=fvsr
Seems like an excellent tho' exceptionally demanding premise of aiming for social equality with a race of extraterrestials that look like a cross between "cockroaches and toasters", especially when set in the post-apartheid, race-torn country of South Africa. Filmed in a gritty, social-documentary style of realism, the unsavoury, repugnant appearance of these creatures makes xenophobia more than completely understandable. The Shanty-Town Shit-Hole "Concentration Camp" that they appear to be confined to conjures memories of Jimmy Cliff's Shanty-Town Jamaica fused with Auschewitz.
Don't know if you recall way back in the post mid-60's when some black writer in the States suggested in a novel he had just released that a concentration camp might well have been in the works for blacks had the racial tensions in the States gotten further out of control. Don't recall the writer's name –no, not Baldwin or Wright or other household big name– but this outlandish, horrific concept got some media airplay and discussion up here in Kanader on CBC at the time. Understandably, this is a far cry of a concept from housing aliens from outer space but nonetheless similarly chilling to contemplate…

Somebody said the acting is bad in spray scene. Agree. The trailer has even more campy elements. Somebody said this is serious film. Doubt that, the whole premise of apartheid between aliens and humans in South Africa is a comedy to start with. And the director is a fan of Robocop.
Anyway, it is must look of course are looks like its gonna be something original.
