Baby Driver Might Be Next for Edgar Wright, Not Ant-Man

Don't get your hopes up about seeing Edgar Wright's Ant-Man movie anytime soon. Wright, who is still shooting Scott Pilgrim vs. the World up in Toronto and skipping Comic-Con this year, told Empire that, "I'd like to make Baby Driver next if possible." Baby Driver is something that Wright wrote himself and isn't based on anything; it's being described as "a wild spin on the action and crime genre which will be set in the US." Wright explains: "I think when I do that one I’d like to go completely silent for once. Probably because it’s not an adaptation or anything, or a sequel to anything else. I’d like to just make it in private, basically."
"Simon’s not involved in Pilgrim. And I was kind of involved with Paul as a producer at the start, but basically I can’t be in two places at once. I’m not one of those people who can do three things at the same time, even though I try to be. So once I’m doing one thing, like this, I’m only doing this. Other things – like Ant-Man and me and Simon’s next film – have all gone away until I’m done with this."
So not only does this mean that Ant-Man will probably be delayed even further, but that the final film in his "Cornetto Trilogy" trilogy, titled The World's End, will also be delayed, too. Wright has been gaining a lot of mainstream traction recently - with both the news of Ant-Man and the kind of coverage he's getting on Scott Pilgrim so far. I'm guessing that means he has a lot more freedom in choosing whatever he wants to do next and if he wants to stretch his legs on Baby Driver first, I'm perfectly fine with that, even though I do really want to see Ant-Man and The World's End. Whatever he does, I'll still be an unwavering supporter.
We don't know anything about Baby Driver, but Wright did confirm it's not a movie about driving babies around (phew!). Hopefully it's like a US version of Hot Fuzz - because I'd definitely love to see something like that! We'll keep you updated on whatever Wright does do next - and the status of Scott Pilgrim as well.

Shame… really wanted him to finish the Blood & Ice Cream Trilogy before he moved into doing American films. Oh well… guess we will be waiting a while for World's End
