Emily Blunt and Matt Damon Starring in a Philip K. Dick Movie
July 14, 2009
by Alex Billington
That headline may be just a bit misleading. The project is titled The Adjustment Bureau and is a sci-fi love story based on the Philip K. Dick short story titled "Adjustment Team" (found in this collection). THR announces that Emily Blunt will star opposite Matt Damon in the film, which is being written and directed by screenwriter George Nolfi (Ocean's Twelve, The Sentinel, The Bourne Ultimatum). Universal is developing the project with Media Rights Capital. It sounds like this will be going into production soon and be the next project for both Blunt and Damon, however, no start date was announced in the THR article.
"Adjustment Team," first published in 1954, has similarities to Alex Proyas' Dark City. Ed Fletcher, a real estates salesman, finds out that our world is really one big soundstage controlled by strange and mysterious guardians. Nolfi's version follows a congressman (Damon) instead, on the rise in politics, who meets a beautiful ballet dancer (Blunt) only to discover strange circumstances keep them apart. That's definitely a major change from Philip K. Dick's story on the surface, and I'm curious to see how much else he's changed. As for Emily Blunt and Matt Damon, these are two actors I really can't wait to see in a PKD movie. You?

Excellent! Blunt was exactly the person I was hoping for when I first heard about this film.
Last I heard, Universal was hoping to begin production in September in Manhattan.

This writer better study up! This sounds great! Gotta love Damon and Blunt!
Now all we need is Giamatti to start on Owl in the Daylight. and Flow My Tears The Policeman Said to go into production, and to find PKD's android!

Matt Damon, who has navigated identity and shifting reality issues–always a part of PKD–in the 1st Bourne
movie and The Talented Mr. Ripley is a good choice for this film.

Damon and Blunt are good fits. New territory for them both as well. Look forward to seeing how this one turns out.
