Focus Sends Over a Blood Bag for Park Chan-wook's Thirst
July 15, 2009
by Alex Billington
Yesterday I got two packages from Focus Features containing some very cool promo items. The bigger box contained a new Comic-Con Survival Kit similar to the one I received last year. This time their focus was on Shane Acker's animated movie 9 coming up later this year, but there were also some additional goodies in the bag. However, the smaller box had one of the coolest promo items I've ever seen for Park Chan-wook's new movie Thirst. Focus Features actually made custom blood bags, like the ones used for IVs in hospitals, that contained juice to drink directly out of the bag. It's disgusting and yet brilliant all at the same time!
Apologies for the very oddly sized video - I shot it using my iPhone. What's great about the Thirst promo is that it actually comes straight from the movie. I saw it in Cannes (read my review) and remember a few scenes where Song Kang-ho drinks blood (since he is a vampire) straight out of the IV in a hospital. I'm honestly still afraid to drink it, just because it is kind of disturbing, but it's still some brilliant viral(?) marketing on their part. Both of these movies will have a strong presence at Comic-Con, so check out the schedule for details. Thirst arrives in theaters on July 31st and 9 arrives in theaters on September 9th.

You have to drink that. Worst case scenario it makes you sick THEN YOU CAN SUE THE CRAP OUT OF THEM! Best case scenario you turn into vampire and terrorize your home town.

The promo isn't exactly "brilliant" or even innovative. The collector's edition of Ichi the Killer has been selling in a bloodpack for years. that said, I love park chan wook and kang oh-song, so I'm really looking forward to this.
