Even Paul Giamatti's Cold Souls Indie Has a Viral Website!
July 18, 2009

A few of you may be looking forward to the upcoming Charlie Kaufman-like indie flick Cold Souls that stars Paul Giamatti as Paul Giamatti (you can watch the trailer here). Well believe it or not, this trippy little indie has a viral website of its own, for the company that the film is about - The Soul Storage Company. You can find the website here - TheSoulStorageCompany.com - and check it out. Apparently it gives you the ability to add your own soul to their database and explore details about the company like it actually exists. They've even taken out real ads in New York's Village Voice newspaper since they're based out of Jersey.
I'm not sure if there is any secret content or nuggets of info hidden around the website, but it is a pretty cool little viral site. At least it looks great and is fully-featured, which isn't usually the case even for mainstream viral sites. They also don't hide the fact that Paul Giamatti is a part of it - he's featured at the bottom of the main page under the "What Our Clients Are Saying" section. The gimmick in the movie is that souls look like all kinds of different things, and if you check out the "Browse Catalog" section, you'll see some examples of that from normal users. And if you want to take it this far, The Soul Storage Company even has a Twitter.
What's so great about this is that it doesn't need to become a big thing to be effective. As in, this viral is not dependent on large number of users, which is great because as an indie film, I don't expect it to be that big at first, but it can last a long time. The soul database already contains some 14 pages of souls, so they've received a lot of attention already. Anyway, check out the site and let us know if you find anything good!

wow, no other comments? cool!
Well let me say I love this marketing by Kaufman it gives Cold Souls a chance to branch out and hope for a larger audience, but as with most indie gems it will remain under the radar, but who knows perhaps C.S. will reach the bigger audience and show off Giamatti's acting chops!
