James Mangold Adapting Foster Memoir Three Little Words
July 21, 2009
by Alex Billington
Yet another new project for 3:10 to Yuma director James Mangold. Variety announces that Mangold will direct an adaptation of Ashley Rhodes-Courter's memoir Three Little Words. Actress Jami Gertz' new production company Lime Orchard Productions is producing the film. "This is a real passion project for them," Gertz said about Mangold and producer Cathy Konrad. "It's a great way for me to learn how you get from A to B to Z on a film like this." The memoir is about Rhodes-Courter's traumatic childhood in foster care. "Nine years in the foster care system could ruin a kid. But [Ashley] not only survived, she's thrived."
While Mangold is attached to eventually direct this, his very next project will most likely be Wichita, an "action comedy" that will star Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. He's also attached to an adaptation of Matz' graphic novel Cyclops. I will admit that I'm much more interested in either of those two projects more than Three Little Words, but anything he does I'm sure I'll be interested in. I'm not the biggest fan of Mangold, but I did like what he did with 3:10 to Yuma. And since I haven't read Three Little Words and don't know that much more about it, I can't be too judgmental this early. We'll keep you updated on this either way!

He did well with Yuma, he should do another western.
