Sam Worthington Headlining a US Remake of The Candidate

Australian actor Sam Worthington is looking to become a producer, too. THR announces today that Worthington is attached to star in a remake of the 2008 Danish thriller The Candidate directed by Kasper Barfoed. Summit Entertainment picked up the rights in a package deal sold with Worthington attached as a producer as well as the lead actor. First-time screenwriter Beau Willimon will pen the screenplay. In The Candidate, a defense attorney goes on the hunt for a group of blackmailers when he is suddenly accused of murder. It's apparently a "nothing-is-what-it-seems fantasia" kind of story reminiscent of The Game.
Although this remake is gaining steam in Hollywood, the original Candidate still hasn't even received US distribution (similar to the situation surround [Rec] and Quarantine). And in case you are worried that Beau Willimon can't write as well as John D. Brancato and Michael Ferris (the two who wrote The Game), he's the one who wrote the play "Farragut North" which is being adapted into a movie and he also adapted Peter Morgan's TV series "The Jury" into a feature screenplay. Based on the concept alone for The Candidate and Worthington's involvement, I'll be keeping a close eye on this as it develops. Thoughts?

sounds good, but are we sure he can do it?
I'm gung-ho on the screenwriter, and Worthington. But are fans of the Danish "The Canidate" going to approve.
As for me I'm for it, hopefully this won't be a useless remake of a film made only a year ago, like that Chris Rock fellow he is doing a remake of the British film "Death at a Funeral" which dosen't even warrant a remake, especially with James Marsden, Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, and Luke Wilson.

Worthington was the best part of Terminator 4, and I really look forward to seeing him in Avatar later this year.

Worthington was really overrated in terminator, he was good but not amazing like people made him out to be. not im not about this.

Hmmmm - thought the best thing about Farragut North at Geffen was the ensemble cast (Thirlby and Pine being the standouts). I found the plot, pacing and writing of the play somewhat hit or miss. Still Willimon is not a hack by any means, so hopefully he can add something to the adaptation.
Have yet to see why people are so excited about Worthington. It is true, he was the best thing about T4 - but the movie was so awful it didn't matter. Worthington is a good actor, and a nice change from the tween-boy or overly gym buff male stars (hello Ryan Reynolds) - but while he is a sympathetic lead - he isn't a particularly compelling or charismatic one. Avatar might change that, but something tells me the technology of that movie will overwhelm the performances.

Just saw Farragut North at the Geffen in LA recently. Brilliantly written. sharp, clever, insightful. im looking forward to this!
