Casting Bits: Downey Jr. is Due, Brolin on Street, Mila Kunis in Swan
July 26, 2009
by Alex Billington
A bunch of casting news hit over the last few days that I thought I'd pull together into one big article. First up, Robert Downey Jr. has signed on opposite Zach Galifianakis in the upcoming comedy Due Date that Hangover director Todd Phillips will direct next (via EW). Downey will play an expectant father on a road trip racing to get to the birth of his first child. Next up, Josh Brolin has been offered the role of the "villain" in Oliver Stone's Wall Street sequel titled Money Never Sleeps (via Nikki Fine). Fox originally wanted Javier Bardem (as reported here) for this, but he turned down the stock-shorting hedge fund manager role.
Lastly, Mila Kunis, who next stars in Mike Judge's Extract, is in discussion to star opposite Natalie Portman in Darren Aronofsky's supernatural drama Black Swan (via THR). The story in this centers on a talented ballerina, played by Portman, in the New York City Ballet who is tormented by a rival who "might or might not" be a figment of her imagination. Kunis will play the role of that rival dancer, named Lilly, with "strange occurrences" between the two increasing as they prepare for a big performance. Even though they still haven't lined up a distributor, Aronofsky is still pushing forward, setting a fall start date in New York City.

Black Swan's synopsis reminds me of "Perfect Blue" which some might recall Aronofsky bought the rights to a while back so he could copy a shot from it for "Requiem For a Dream." Loose adaption maybe? Just a fun notion…
