Richard Linklater Might Direct 'Liars (A-E)' for Miramax
July 27, 2009
by Alex Billington
Richard Linklater is one of those directors who I will always be fond of, no matter what he does, or how experimental he goes. Even though his latest feature film, Me and Orson Welles, still hasn't been picked up since it debut at the Toronto Film Festival last year, he might have his next project already lined up - and it's not that Dazed & Confused sequel or School of Rock sequel. Linklater is nearing a deal to direct Liars (A-E) for Scott Rudin and Miramax. The screenplay, written by Emma Forrest, is a romantic comedy about a woman who, on the way to President Obama's inauguration, retrieves lost items from her ex-boyfriends.
Okay, well, since that synopsis is a bit too vague for my liking, I decided to dig a bit deeper into this, but there wasn't much more to find out. Kat Dennings is already attached to play a friend of the lead in the movie. EW describes the film a bit differently: "Dennings stars as the best friend of a girl forced to recover a series of lost items from several ex-boyfriends… while the two ladies are traveling to see President Obama’s inauguration." Sounds like it could be quite fun. Linklater does have experience working in romance before, as he directed both Before Sunrise and Before Sunset. We'll let you know if he does indeed direct this next.

Sounds like it could be something good.
But what's with that synopsis? Obama's inauguration? Is that supposed to be the backdrop the story follows? Kind of like the way Deffiently Maybe, goes about Clinton's presidency?
