Jason Reitman's Up in the Air Premiering at the Toronto Film Fest
July 30, 2009
by Alex Billington
I'm not going to lie - I am probably more excited for Jason Reitman's Up in the Air than I am any other movie the rest of this year. I love Jason Reitman, I love the cast, I love the story, everything about it sounds amazing. I even read the script earlier this year and it was brilliant. The Toronto International Film Festival has just announced another batch of eight new films that are in their line-up (see indieWIRE for more) and Up in the Air is one of them. This isn't too surprising, as we expected Up in the Air to premiere there, considering Reitman was born in Montreal and TIFF loves Canadian filmmakers (and Juno debuted there).
From Jason Reitman, the Oscar-nominated director of Juno, comes a comedy starring George Clooney as Ryan Bingham, a corporate downsizing expert whose cherished life on the road is threatened just as he is on the cusp of reaching ten million frequent flyer miles and just after he’s met the frequent-traveller woman of his dreams. In addition to Clooney, Up in the Air stars Vera Farmiga, Jason Bateman, and Anna Kendrick. I have very high hopes for this, though I'll temper my expectations until September, so that I can fall in love with this movie when it premieres at TIFF. The festival kicks off on September 10th and last until the 19th.

He also debuted "Thank You for Smoking" there, where it got picked up for $7 million. Both of which played in the same theatre, the Ryerson Theatre, and in the same timeslot. After "Juno", they joked that it's Reitman's timeslot. I think it was a half-joke.
