Judd Apatow Developing Projects with John Carney & Kimberly Peirce

More new projects from Judd Apatow? Now, now, don't fear, these may turn out great! ComingSoon has learned about two new projects that Apatow is developing with two very talented indie filmmakers. First up, he revealed that he's working with John Carney, the Irish filmmaker who brought us the wonderful flick Once. Apatow is also working with Kimberly Peirce, who brought us Boys Don't Cry and Stop-Loss, to develop an untitled romantic sex comedy. Unfortunately, we don't know anything about the project he's developing with Carney, but ComingSoon did find out a bit more about Kimberly Peirce's project. Read on!
"I am thrilled and excited to be working with Judd," Peirce told them. She is writing and will direct the comedy, but didn't say anything else about it. However, they did some snooping and found this description for her feature: "In the vein of Pedro Almodovar and Woody Allen in which a 'guy's' group of friends resuscitates him from the worst possible breakup, and trains him to find true love in this gender twist on the classic romantic comedy." Obviously that's too vague to get a good sense of what it'll be about, but of course, I like the concept so far, especially coming from Kimberly Peirce. I'm looking forward to seeing it develop.
Apatow, in addition to directing his own movies, has become known for supporting indie filmmakers and helping them boost their careers. Most recently he developed Superbad with Greg Mottola and Pineapple Express with David Gordon Green. Knowing that Carney and Peirce may be his latest protégés is just great news in general. Can't wait to find out more about both of these projects! We'll keep you updated on them.

All but Funny People which I haven't seen…obviously. All of Apatow's others producing credits have been lowest common denominator comedy, or thereabouts. Judging from an in-depth interview I saw with Kimberly Pierce and the deep themes that run through her work, somehow I think they'll clash A LOT.
Can't speak for the Irish-man, as I don't know him nor his work.
