Worth Watching - July 31: Richard Eyre's The Other Man Trailer

Now this is a very odd trailer. I'm not sure if they just didn't have the budget to mix the audio correctly of it's just supposed to be that way. I mean, it looks good visually, the editing is spot-on, but the audio is just weird. The Other Man stars Liam Neeson, Antonio Banderas, and Laura Linney, and is a "taut thriller" about adultery. I'm not sure if it's really that great of a film, but coming from Richard Eyre, who previously directed Notes on a Scandal, I expect it to at least be fairly enticing (I liked Scandal). That said, I'll let you experience this trailer for yourself, because there's not much more I can say to prepare you. Watch it below!

The story of a husband who suspects his wife of adultery, and then sets out to track down the other man.
The Other Man is both written and directed by BAFTA nominated British filmmaker Richard Eyre, of Iris, Stage Beauty, and Notes on a Scandal most recently. This is based on Bernhard Schlink's short story. The screenplay was adapted by both Eyre and Charles Wood. This first premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year. Image Entertainment is bringing The Other Man to limited theaters starting on September 25th.

Woah, Banderas still makes movies?
Looks… interesting. Reminds me of Unforgettable (2006?) or that other adultery movie thats from the 90s… I forget what its called. ya know, the one with the classic freight elevator leading to the one studio apartment room….

Looks very good! And nothing wrong with audio. You over analyze too much. Looks like Liam will be kick some more ass!

I hope Liam Neeson goes all crazy and shoots everyone in the movie like he did in Taken

Looks like Taken mixed with Unfaithful. Liam Neeson rocks in most everything though, so I'm willing to give it a shot.

I like the self imposed typecasting Liam Neeson's going for these days. Family guy who freaks out and shows his real guns to whomever f*cked up his life.
This is actually what I was hoping Joey Gordon Levitt would've done in 500 days of summer. I was just waiting for him to freak out, a' la Brick or Manic. Never happened, though. Big let down.
Banderas & Linney are the perfect foils. I like where this is going, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the audio.

Sounds like a trailer one mixes fast, to get an idea of what one wants in the final trailer. Alot of ambience not commonly heared in a trailer. Guessing the sound fx/composer were not available at the time the trailer was cut, the music was everywhere almost sounding like a 'radio-trailer'?
Mistakes are made, this could be the 'wrong trailer' sent out, not the one intended? Or could it be they were aiming for that 'chaotic european style trailer' ?
Try listening to the trailer, eyes shut. It does sound a bit odd

Feels like a combo of taken and unfaithful
and yes, the sound is weird - not obvious - but that's what makes it unsettling; you're trying to connect, but its awkward.
meh.
