Must Watch: First Badass Trailer for Ellen Page's Whip It!
Fox Searchlight has just debuted the trailer for Whip It! starring Ellen Page, Drew Barrymore, and Juliette Lewis. This is that roller derby movie we featured some badass photos from only last week. It looks a little bit different than I was expecting, but still as badass as I had hoped it would be. I hate to make this kind of comparison, but it actually feels a lot like Adventureland, in terms of being a hometown kind of coming-of-age movie with that very indie feel to it. That's not a bad thing, and I'm still certainly very excited to see it. Ellen Page looks great, as always, and the supporting cast looks wonderful as well. Fire this bad boy up!

The Weekly Moviegoer - Fanning the Fading Fad of 3D
I finally went to see Pixar's Up in 3D on the eve of the release of Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. I knew that the latter movie was going to take over most of the 3D screens in my area, so it seemed this might be my last chance to catch the Pixar film in the heightened format. Why had I waited so long in the first place? Well, besides being a chronic procrastinator, I was still attempting to introduce some friends to digital 3D, and I was waiting for them to come around in order to see it with them. Unfortunately, a lot of people, including many I'm acquainted with, continue to have no interest in this 3D "fad" as it's being called.

Focus Sends Over a Blood Bag for Park Chan-wook's Thirst
Yesterday I got two packages from Focus Features containing some very cool promo items. The bigger box contained a new Comic-Con Survival Kit similar to the one I received last year. This time their focus was on Shane Acker's animated movie 9 coming up later this year, but there were also some additional goodies in the bag. However, the smaller box had one of the coolest promo items I've ever seen for Park Chan-wook's new movie Thirst. Focus Features actually made custom blood bags, like the ones used for IVs in hospitals, that contained juice to drink directly out of the bag. It's disgusting and yet brilliant all at the same time!

Sound Off: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - Thoughts?
Now that you've seen it, what did you think? The latest whimsical installment in the on-going Harry Potter series finally hit theaters today (after being delayed eight months), but is it a step up or a step down from Order of the Phoenix? Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince brings back director David Yates and screenwriter Steve Kloves, who last wrote Goblet of Fire but not Order of the Phoenix. Could this be the best in the series so far? Or is it another disappointment? How does it compare to the book? Sound off below, leave your thoughts, and let us know what you thought of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince!

Hugh Jackman Interested in a Quirky Comedy - Avon Man?
So where do go next with your career when coming off of hosting the Oscars and playing a jacked superhero for the fourth time? Well, first to Broadway, for a short time on stage alongside of Daniel Craig. Then how about to a high concept comedy from the same guy who wrote Hitch? Variety reports that 20th Century Fox has acquired Avon Man, a comedy pitch from writer Kevin Bisch, who's only credit is Hitch, besides being first assistant director on some short called White Light. Hugh Jackman might star as the main character - a car salesman who loses his job and turns reluctantly to the sales of Avon cosmetics to make ends meet.

Rogue Pictures Hires a Director for the Hack/Slash Movie
You might remember reading, more than a year ago, that Rogue Pictures was adapting the comic book series Hack/Slash. Street Fighter screenwriter Justin Marks had been hired to write the script, which it turns out probably wasn't the best idea. However, Rogue is still pushing forward and has hired first-time director Fredrik Bond to direct the movie. Bond's career so far has been directing commercials (and a short film) and this marks his feature debut. Several other directors, including newcomer Todd Lincoln, have been attached, but it looks like it's officially set to start shooting sometime this winter with Bond at the helm.

Must Watch: Great Trailer for Lone Scherfig's An Education
Sony Pictures Classics has finally debuted the trailer for the Sundance hit An Education, starring Carey Mulligan and Peter Sarsgaard, and directed by Lone Scherfig. This is a great trailer for a fantastic coming-of-age film with an actress who I bet might end up winning the Oscar next year. When I first walked into to see this during Sundance, I wasn't expecting to like it, as I'm usually not a fan of dainty period pieces. But this film is exquisite in every aspect, beyond just Mulligan's performance. It eventually won the Audience Award and Cinematography Award at Sundance, deservedly so because it is so phenomenal. Watch this!

Steven Soderbergh Says He Sees the End of His Career Coming
Filmmaker Steven Soderbergh doesn't sound like he's doing too good. UK newspaper Guardian had a chance to talk with him recently, over the phone, and he sounds a bit depressed. Take this, for example: "You know, for a year after we finished shooting I would still wake up in the morning thinking, 'Thank God I'm not shooting that film.'" Though in the context of the conversation, that quote isn't as shocking as it by itself. Guardian's Henry Barnes was talking with Soderbergh about his two-part epic Che starring Benicio Del Toro. "It took a long time to shake off. It was just such an intense four or five months that it really..."

Four New Promo Photos from Burton's Alice in Wonderland
Ah yes, even more creepy photos from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland! A few of these shots, which I'm calling the "animal" series (you'll see why), were leaked out a few weeks ago. But thanks to Empire we finally have a good clear, high res look at the entire series, including The White Queen, played by Anne Hathaway. If you're attending Comic-Con next week, it's our bet that the first ever footage from Alice in Wonderland will be shown during Disney's 3D panel on Thursday morning, with Tim Burton appearing. Anyway, you'll definitely want to see this new photo series below. Click any of them to see them bigger.

Don't Watch: First Trailer for Steve Carell's Despicable Me
This trailer is a bunch of bullshit. It's not actually about the painfully stereotypical ADD child that causes mayhem in Egypt. Instead, it's about a deplorable evil mastermind named Gru, voiced by Steve Carell, who plans to steal the moon. But a trio of orphan girls, named Margo, Edith and Agnes, are the one thing that could make him rethink his evil plan. That's what this is really about, but besides a Hitchcock-like silhouette at the end, this trailer for Despicable Me doesn't even show us what Gru looks like or any of that story. And considering I hated the rest of it, well, the only thing I can say is that it looks terrible.

Toronto is easily the biggest of the fests during that tour and always has an incredible line-up. They've announced a new batch of titles including the Opening Night film: Jon Amiel's Creation (watch the trailer). So read on!
