Cameron Diaz Interested in Joining Seth Rogen's Green Hornet
Whoa, what the heck? Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Cameron Diaz is interested in playing the female lead in The Green Hornet that will star Seth Rogen and be directed by Michel Gondry. Years ago this might have been a good choice, as Diaz had a lot of star power, but nowadays she's almost a nobody. Well, not really, but she only does the occasional romcom and not much else. I had high hopes for her in Richard Kelly's The Box, but she looks like the weakest link in that as well! We don't know anything about her character, but I got a kick out of AICN joking that she's going to play Kato (instead of Stephen Chow).

Hilarious Red Band Trailer for Judd Apatow's Funny People
Universal has finally debuted a new red band trailer for Judd Apatow's Funny People that will also be showing in front of Bruno this weekend. We haven't seen another actual trailer for this comedy since the first one debuted back in February. This is not a lot of new footage in this, which is perfectly fine, because I definitely want to see the funniest moments in theaters and don't want any of this to be ruined. I've still got that feeling that this could be one of my favorite movies this year, just because it has some great humor and some emotion that I think only someone like Judd Apatow can balance. Definitely give this trailer a shot!

One More Glorious Poster for Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds
A basterd's work is never done. These posters for Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds just don't stop coming! We recently featured a batch of beautiful character posters and before that we all saw the "is a Basterd" poster series that was put out for Cannes. Yahoo has debuted another new one; what I presume is the official US poster, since it's an entirely different game selling this movie to Americans. This isn't my favorite poster, but it is definitely still pretty damn cool. Now if only they actually had a scene with stacked up Nazi bodies like from 300 in the movie itself, that would be even cooler. Check this new one out below!

Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan Update - New Script Almost Done
With that story about George Clooney from last week, it seems as if Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan is back in the mainstream conscious once again. As we mentioned in that article, Paramount hired Killshot screenwriter Hossein Amini last year to write a new Jack Ryan screenplay for them to turn into a franchise. Anne Thompson (via Variety) provides a small update on the project, saying that Amini is due to turn in the first draft of an original screenplay currently called the Untitled Tom Clancy Project. Paramount is working with Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura to develop the feature but it's still very early on.

Sony's Live-Action Smurfs Movie Finds the Perfect Director
The Smurfs are finally, after 28 years, headed for the big screen. Columbia Pictures has hired Raja Gosnell to direct the 3D live-action / animation hybrid that has been in development for a while. Gosnell's previous films include Big Momma's House, Scooby-Doo, and Beverly Hills Chihuahua. I obviously don't like any of those movies, but for this he's a perfect fit, as he's got a lot of experience working with hybrid CGI creations. They won't say what the story is about just yet, but this does make me wonder if the Smurfs will be involved in our real human world in some way, or if they'lll just be CGI creations placed into live-action backgrounds.

Rumor: Another Mortal Kombat Movie Shooting This Year?!
Wait, when did this happen? Yesterday, Warner Bros announced that they had bought most of Midway Games' assets, the big video game corporation responsible for a number of hit games, including Mortal Kombat. It was big news, but no details were disclosed, so no one really cared. Earlier tonight I was sent over a link to an article in the SGV Tribune, a newspaper out of California. In it, they talk with former actor and karate teacher Chris Casamassa, who played Scorpion in the original two Mortal Kombat movies. "According to Casamassa, he's set to start filming the third Mortal Kombat film in September." Really?

Tobey Maguire Starring in The Details with Elizabeth Banks
Whenever I see Tobey Maguire playing a character that's not Peter Parker, it's always seems a bit odd to me, like in Seabiscuit and The Good German. Maguire is now set to star in an indie black comedy called The Details written and directed by Jacob Estes (of Mean Creek previously). Shooting begins August in Seattle, which means he'll get to this before reprising his role as Peter Parker in Spider-Man 4. Elizabeth Banks stars alongside of Maguire; the two play a struggling married couple. In addition to those two, the cast includes Ray Liotta, Dennis Haysbert and Anna Friel, with Laura Linney also playing an eccentric neighbor.

Jorma Taccone Directing the MacGruber Movie with Ryan Phillippe
Screw the actual MacGuyver movie, this is all we need! Jorma Taccone, who most recently played Chaka in the putrid Land of the Lost movie, is set to make his directorial debut with the MacGruber movie based on the popular SNL skit starring Will Forte. In addition to Forte, who will reprise his role as the titular character, Ryan Phillippe and Val Kilmer are also in negotiations to join the cast. Kristen Wiig will reprise her role as his assistant. Taccone hasn't directed any features, but he did create the character and direct most of the MacGruber skits for SNL. Forte, Taccone, and John Solomon are writing the feature script.

McG's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Remake Gets a Rewrite
I wonder if the poor box office performance of Terminator Salvation has anything to do with this? Disney has brought in (via THR) Oscar nominated writer Randall Wallace (Braveheart, Pearl Harbor, We Were Soldiers) to rewrite the original draft of the Captain Nemo: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea script penned by Justin Marks (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li) and Bill Marsilii (Deja Vu). Now the big question is if McG will move into directing this rather than Terminator 5, which might never get made. The last we heard, 20,000 Leagues was already in pre-production, but now they've got to wait for the rewrite.

Check This Out: Jim Carrey's I Love You Phillip Morris Poster
I'm certain that anytime there is any new marketing material for I Love You Phillip Morris, which stars Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor as gay lovers, it's going to create a lot of buzz. Not only because the gay community is fairly strong in Hollywood, but because it'll be so wild that we just can't pass it up. Take this obnoxiously yellow poster featuring Jim Carrey in a very gay pose. It's not the official US poster (I saw this up at Cannes) but it is still worth checking out. Thankfully this got picked up for distribution and it should be out in theaters early next year. I saw this in Cannes and really liked it (read my review). Anyway, enjoy!

Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Sid and Nancy
Hollywood's most recognizable stars have joined Mean Magazine's Cinemash, a new eye-catching video project. Mean's Cinemash recreates scenes from prominent films – ranging from cult classics to Oscar winners, all with eyebrow-raising casts. The series kicks off today with Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt cinemashing the 1986 classic film Sid and Nancy. This is perfect because there is a scene in the upcoming 500 Days of Summer (which I've added below) in which they actually talk about how they're like Sid and Nancy. Now they actually get to play Sid and Nancy. You definitely need to see this!

Marc Webb's 500 Days of Blogging #2 - 500 Minutes Out
Keen observers of the photos from the 500 Days Of Summer LA (it's-early-I-know-but-Joe-and-Zooey-are-both-doing-movies-so-we-had-to-do-it-three-weeks-before-the-movie-actually-comes-out) premiere might notice that Mathew Gray Gubler had a knee brace and crutches while walking on the red carpet. To make a long story short - it's my fault. The other night the guys from 500 Days of Summer (Joe, Me, Mathew and Geoffrey) went back to downtown LA on a sort of pub crawl, dance party, reminiscing event. And, like most successful drinking nights, ended up in the hospital! For more details click the video below!
