Whoa - Sam Raimi to Direct the World of Warcraft Movie!

Sam Raimi - World of Warcraft

Our trustworthy friends over at Ain't It Cool News have landed a huge scoop today. They're reporting that the beloved Evil Dead and Spider-Man director Sam Raimi will be directing a movie based on World of Warcraft. This movie has been "in the works" ever since the game became the all-time greatest MMORPG, however we haven't heard anything about it in a while. In fact, our last update on this was late last year, in which Blizzard's president Mike Morhaime did at least say that "there are still plans for a World of Warcraft movie" but that the script was still being developed. Now it looks like things have finally fallen into place.

Check This Out: Harry Potter Directors - By the Numbers

Harry Potter Directors By the Numbers Graph

A few weeks back we featured a really cool box office graph created by Jeff Appelbaum called Michael Bay: By the Numbers. Jeff recently whipped up another impressive graph, this time looking at the Harry Potter movies. This time he presents Harry Potter Directors: By the Numbers (via MovieFill.com) and does a comparison of the four various directors who have directed Harry Potter movies. Not only does he look at their history and the impact of Harry Potter on their career, but also how the budgets of each compare (and their eventual box office performance). I've been given me permission to post this graph in full seen below.

James Mangold Adapting Foster Memoir Three Little Words

James Mangold - Three Little Words

Yet another new project for 3:10 to Yuma director James Mangold. Variety announces that Mangold will direct an adaptation of Ashley Rhodes-Courter's memoir Three Little Words. Actress Jami Gertz' new production company Lime Orchard Productions is producing the film. "This is a real passion project for them," Gertz said about Mangold and producer Cathy Konrad. "It's a great way for me to learn how you get from A to B to Z on a film like this." The memoir is about Rhodes-Courter's traumatic childhood in foster care. "Nine years in the foster care system could ruin a kid. But [Ashley] not only survived, she's thrived."

Official Trailer for Jane Campion's Cannes Hit Bright Star

Bright Star Trailer

Pathe and BBC Films have debuted the official trailer for Jane Campion's Bright Star on Yahoo today. Bright Star is a slow-moving period romance about poet John Keats, played by Ben Whishaw, who falls in love with Fanny Brawne, played by Abbie Cornish. This had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival back in May and received quite an enthusiastic response from critics. However, I was not a big fan of it at all, it was just too boring for me. Even though this trailer is very well put together and the photography looks gorgeous, I still have no interest in seeing it again. But other cinephiles might enjoy it, so check it!

First Look: Paul Bettany as Michael in Scott Stewart's Legion

Paul Bettany in Legion

When the last angel falls, the fight for mankind begins. Out of all the movies on the line-up at Comic-Con, there was only one that I found that I had never heard of before - Legion. It has an impressive cast - Dennis Quaid, Paul Bettany, Doug Jones, Tyrese Gibson, Kevin Durand, Kate Walsh - and is directed by first-time feature filmmaker Scott Stewart, a former visual effects artist from The Orphanage (which shut down last year). It seems like it could be awesome, but we haven't seen anything yet. However, thanks to Maximum PC, we have our first look at a banner from Comic-Con and it looks exactly as I expected it would - badass!

Tim Burton Confirms He's Shooting Dark Shadows Next Year

Dark Shadows

Good news fans of Johnny Depp. Or fans of the vampire Barnabas Collins. Back in June, a few weeks ago, Depp told press that "Dark Shadows is happening." And that "when Tim is done with Alice and we get the script, which is very, very close, in order we'll probably attack it next year. It's exciting, very exciting. It's like a lifelong dream for me." Well, MTV talked with Burton recently and got a separate update that confirms that he is, indeed, shooting Dark Shadows next year. "That's something that [Depp and I] both love and are excited about," the director told them. "When I'm done with this I'll definitely focus on that."

Sam Worthington Headlining a US Remake of The Candidate

Sam Worthington

Australian actor Sam Worthington is looking to become a producer, too. THR announces today that Worthington is attached to star in a remake of the 2008 Danish thriller The Candidate directed by Kasper Barfoed. Summit Entertainment picked up the rights in a package deal sold with Worthington attached as a producer as well as the lead actor. First-time screenwriter Beau Willimon will pen the screenplay. In The Candidate, a defense attorney goes on the hunt for a group of blackmailers when he is suddenly accused of murder. It's apparently a "nothing-is-what-it-seems fantasia" kind of story reminiscent of The Game.

Edgar Wright Plays Internet Frisbee with Paul's Simon Pegg

Nick Frost and Simon Pegg on Paul

If you're a big fan of Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, or Nick Frost, you've probably been following both of the video blogs for Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Simon Pegg's Paul. Yes, it's sad that Frost and Pegg aren't working on another movie with Wright, but they can still work together. We previously posted video blogs for both Scott Pilgrim and Paul (click either of those links) and now the two are coming together. Wright just posted a video blog where he throws a frisbee and then Pegg posted one where he catches that exact same frisbee - from Toronto to New Mexico! It's actually pretty damn cool!

Flynn's Arcade Exists? New Viral Game for Tron? Updated!

Flynn's Arcade Tokens

Wow something strange is going on out there. I woke up this morning to find a FedEx package from some address listed in San Diego called PMB. Inside the envelope were two arcade tokens (see above) for the once thought to be mythical Flynn's Arcade. Yep, the very same Flynn's that is the "Home of Tron" from the movie, uh, Tron. If I can put two-and-two together, a San Diego location this week might mean that Disney is doing a little Tron 2 viral marketing at Comic-Con. Sounds good to me! In addition to the tokens, there was also a thumb drive with an image labeled "4.gif" that is a coded animated gif. Check that out below.

First Extended TV Spot for Peter Jackson's District 9 Hits

District 9 TV Spot

A brand new extended 60-second TV spot for Neill Blomkamp's District 9 has just landed online. Don't expect to too much new footage, but this is a bit of a different cut than the most recent trailer and does feature some very interesting and revealing lines of dialogue (I won't say which ones). If you haven't already heard, District 9 will be showing at Comic-Con on Thursday this week, so expect to hear some early buzz coming from that. Peter Jackson, who produced this, will also be at Comic-Con in support of the movie. So even if you're not going to be San Diego this week, definitely watch this, it's still looks as awesome as before.
