Carla Gugino Joins the Tough All-Girl Cast of Sucker Punch
August 3, 2009
by Alex Billington
Is there even a male actor in this cast? THR announces tonight that actress Carla Gugino is the latest to join the cast of Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch. Gugino last worked with Snyder on Watchmen, where she starred as the first Silk Spectre. The all-girl cast of Snyder's latest movie includes Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, and Abbie Cornish. Sucker Punch is a 1950s-set tale of a girl confined to a mental institution by her evil stepfather, who intends to have her lobotomized in five days. She and her friends (those five girls I mentioned) enter an alternate reality where they begin planning an escape.
You can definitely expect lots of awesome fight scenes in Sucker Punch. They "actors are currently in fight training, and the studio is readying a fall shoot in Vancouver." Way back when, Snyder called it "Alice in Wonderland with machine guns" and things like dragons, B-52 bombers and brothels. We have no clue what character Gugino will be playing, but I have a feeling she's going to be evil or a motherly character, because I could see her playing either of those perfectly. I'm looking forward Sucker Punch, not only because it's an original idea from Snyder, but because it sounds awesome. Check out the first bit of artwork from the movie.

This girl is becoming what Bruce Campbell is to cult horror movies and to think she was in that Pauly Shore film Son In Law. She's come a long way…although I thought her character was weird in Righteous Kill she was brilliant in THE WATCHMEN.

I bet Snyder'll find a reason to bring loads of pointless, excessive violence into this, as he always does.

@9 what movie had excessive violence that was pointless? 300 was a pure man's man action movie about a Spartan war. So any violence isn't excessive. And in Watchmen, the violence was perfectly normal if you take it into context. The graphic novel turned superhero's on their head, and made them real. If someone with extreme training and superior strength punched or hit a regular criminal, it's going to do some damage. And it showed it. that's part of the reason why it changed comics forever. Snyder tried to do the same thing with the movie. If you did what Dan did in real life and punched a guy straight in the arm with enough force, you'll break the bone, which causes bleeding. One of the great things about Watchmen, both the movie and the graphic novel, is that every little detail and event has a purpose. The violence is no exception.

Very nice news! A very underrated and talented actress. Just so incredibly beautiful to boot!
According to CS… "she will play a nurse in the insane asylum who becomes a madam at a brothel in the film's alternate reality."
