Hurt Locker's Kathryn Bigelow Appears on The Colbert Report
August 3, 2009
by Alex Billington
It's a surprisingly slow day for news, so I thought I'd feature this interview from a recent episode of The Colbert Report. Colbert talks with director Kathryn Bigelow about her movie The Hurt Locker, which is currently in theaters now. As anyone, including The Film Feed guys, will tell you, The Hurt Locker is a must-see this summer, one of the most intense movies you'll watch, without a doubt. If you've seen it or are remotely interested in it, hopefully you read our interview with Kathryn and writer Mark Boal earlier this summer. Additionally, this is a fun, little interview that also highlights Hurt Locker in a great way - enjoy!
If you haven't seen the trailer for The Hurt Locker yet, I highly suggest you watch that online as well!
The Hurt Locker is directed by Kathryn Bigelow, of Blue Steel, Point Break, K-19: The Widowmaker, and Mission Zero previously. The original screenplay was written by Mark Boal, an actual war photographer that spent time in Iraq with a real EOD bomb squad and came back with many riveting stories that became the inspiration for the film. Summit Entertainment picked up the distribution rights to this during the Toronto Film Festival last year and they already debuted it in limited theaters starting on June 26th this summer.

#2 - Colbert went to Iraq to entertain the troops for a week, while there he had his head shaved on stage.

Why would you namecheck a flop like K19 and a short promo like Mission Zero rather than much-loved cult classics like Near Dark and Strange Days? You do have some odd criteria in mind when listing directors' former work, Alex…

Is she related to Deuce Bigelow Male Gigaloo by any chance?

Wow - I never knew she directed Strange Days - another of my faves.
I wonder how she feels about Point Break: Live! The kitschy theatrical production thats become a fan fave.
I must say thought, "the Hurt Locker" is the single most visceral cinematic experience I've had all year, and I don't care who knows it. See it in the theatre while you can. It is THAT good.
Oh, and she's pretty dang beautiful, to boot.;)
(Colbert's a tall guy so she must be basketball player height. Somehow that makes her even HOTTER.)

Could someone give this talented director $75mill+change to make William Gibson's Neuromancer? Might be the Strange Days connection I am making, but I think she can pull it off
