Is Monster Squad's Fred Dekker Writing Cliffhanger 2?
August 3, 2009
by Alex Billington
Earlier tonight I attended a screening of the cult classic 1987 creature feature Monster Squad at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica featuring a live commentary with director Fred Dekker and screenwriter Shane Black. It was a great experience, one of the best I've had being in LA, and of course it ended with a Q&A. When Dekker was asked about what he's currently working on, the first thing he said was "I'm currently writing Cliffhanger 2." At first I thought he was joking, but the tone of his voice didn't make it sound like a joke and he didn't pause for a laugh, he just continued on about the Night of the Creeps DVD release.
When I got back home, I read through all the details again on that Cliffhanger reboot that StudioCanal announced back in May. The press release talks a lot about producer Neal Moritz and his early plans for the new Cliffhanger, but nothing about any writers except that they're "looking to attach a screenwriter." So maybe Dekker is their guy? Or he's at least one of the writers they've got putting together an early draft? It's quite interesting that he referred to it as "Cliffhanger 2" and not a reboot or remake. I hope he didn't just say that he was doing "a cliffhanger, too" and I heard him wrong, although I really doubt that's the case.
Dekker hasn't written anything for the since RoboCop 3 in 1993. Of course, he also wrote House, Night of the Creeps, and Monster Squad before that. Either he's one of those screenwriters who works on first drafts for producers or he's trying to get back into writing again with a Cliffhanger sequel. Or it was all just joke. One thing I do know is that he really did say that, so I can assure you that quote is accurate, believe it or not. If you've heard elsewhere, let us know. But from here, we'll let you speculate on what this might mean?

True Lies 2 vs Cliffhanger 2?
Zomg, should the world's 2 greatest action stars reignite their old competition?!?!?!?
I feel like I just stepped out of a time machine and walked right into the early 90's.
Ah, youth…how have I missed thee.

@3… you are such a dork.
Cliffhanger remains in my mind as a badass movie. Although… I don't think I've seen it since I was like 15, so that might have something to do with it.

HI
I am the mother of a downs child. He has every movie Rocky made,he absolutely loves him. I was wondering if you could send me a poster of rocky for kevins room. I have tried to get intouch with Mr. Stallone by myself but could get anywhere. Oh by the way my son is 45 and even has an animated statue of him that sits on his dresser. There is just myself and kevin living at home, due to the death of his father at a very young age.He has a brother and sister older and younger, they both love him,in fact the whole community does. I would really appreciate any help.
Thank You
