Basterds Goes Viral - Fredrick Zoller's Nation's Pride Trailer

This isn't really a true ARG viral or anything, but it is pretty damn cool anyway. Apple has debuted a trailer for the German WWII film Nation's Pride starring Nazi hero Fredrick Zoller. What the heck is Nation's Pride? It's the movie-within-a-movie that plays an integral part in the plot of Inglourious Basterds. In the movie, this has its world premiere at a theater being run by Shosanna Dreyfus, and everyone last prominent German figure, including Adolf Hitler, will be attending the premiere, which is exactly why the Basterds show up there as well (to kill 'em all). This trailer was dubbed in English, so it is still watchable.
Nation's Pride was actually directed by Eli Roth in real life, and bits and pieces of it are shown in Basterds.

During World War II, a group of Jewish-American soldiers known as "the Basterds" are chosen to spread fear throughout the Third Reich by scalping and brutally killing Nazis. The Basterds soon cross paths with a young French girl named Shosanna who runs a movie theater in Paris that is frequented by soldiers.
Inglourious Basterds is both written and directed by the infamous Quentin Tarantino, of everything from Reservoir Dogs to Pulp Fiction to Kill Bill to Death Proof previously. The Weinstein Company and Universal have partnered to bring us Tarantino's WWII masterpiece in all of its brilliant glory. After first debuting at the Cannes Film Festival, Inglourious Basterds will now hit theaters worldwide on August 21st this year.

I really hope they release the full version online. Eli Roth said it's about 8 minutes long but they only use like 3 different clips in the movie haha.

The cult of Tarantino has disappeared. With the lame DEATH PROOF and the ordinary violent INGLORIOUS BASTERDS Tarantino seems yesterdays dinner. His WW2 own boys adventure seems quite under the rader. The movie has a strong graphic novel feel with outrageous comical violence. This film has 70% subtitles which doesn't bother me but will test the endurance of the North American box office. If your film ain't in english people will unfortunately not watch it. Tarantino films are multi-textured and pay homage to other films within the genres he's working. Tarantino still hasn't found his own identity and voice. He still continuosly references other directors work. Tarantino films have lenghty passasges of dialogue that lead to spectacular violence. INGLORIOUS BASTERDS is no different. As for me this genre was done better with classic films like THE DIRTY DOZEN and KELLEY'S HEROES. Those two films are probaly the best own boys WW2 adventure films made. Considering over 50 million people lost their lives in that conflict I think this is not a genre to play for entertaiment. At least Spielberg showed the true cost of that conflict with Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan and Polanski's The Pianist. HARRY GEORGATOS

You quote Dirty Dozen and Kelly's Heroes as being two of the best own boys WWII adventures made and then say that it's not a genre to play for entertainment. Over half of Hollywood's WWII productions were played for entertainment, including your quoted favourites. The Fifties and Sixties production companies had no problems with WWII - it's only in later years that WWII has become "all serious and pious" Something we have the Holocaust industry to thank for.

THE DIRTY DOZEN and KELLY'S HEROES are the best examples of that genre. It's obvious 90% of Hollywood WW2 movies were comming out of Hollywood as flagwaving propaganda movies with the likes of John Wayne charging in the battlefield to sell the war to the American public. Those were sanitized movies that didn't show the real cost of war and represented the worse portryal of those conflicts to the American public. I didn't mind Tarantino's INGLORIOUS BASTERDS but thought it could have been a better more sustained and faster movie then what we got. The movie like all of Tarantino movies bog down in lengthy dialogue that eventually leads to explosive comical violence. Tarantino's movie became entertaining to me once the set-piece in the cinema came about. It was a very good sequence that could have come out of a graphic novel with strking images. If male audience want to feel 50 feet taller and stronger in watching these fantasy WW2 movies all good and nice. I suspect if you get this type of males in the battlefield they'll be more like the characters in Spielbergs SAVING PRIVATE RYAN. The great war films are anti-war films. If males want a propaganda WW2 movie brainwashing the youth thinking they're the next John Wayne or the ridiculous Rambo all good and nice. HARRY GEORGATOS
