Liam Neeson Joins Orphan Director's 'Unknown White Male'
August 5, 2009
by Alex Billington
Liam Neeson has been taking on tons of projects recently. Neeson is negotiating to to star in Unknown White Male, the Dark Castle thriller that will be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, of Orphan this summer. The script, written by newcomer Karl Gajdusek ("Dead Like Me"), centers on a doctor (Neeson) who, while visiting Berlin with his wife, is in a car accident that leaves him in a coma. He awakens to find that he seemingly has been replaced by another man, one with sinister intentions, leading the good doctor on a frantic quest to uncover the truth. It doesn't sound like the most original idea, but it still could be good.
Dark Castle's Joel Silver is producing with Leonard Goldberg. Variety says that the script is based on Didier Van Cauwelaert's novel "Out of My Head" and that the script was actually written by Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell (and not the aforementioned Karl Gajdusek). The plan is for production to begin in January in Berlin. I never did end up seeing Orphan this summer, although according to Hunter Stephenson of SlashFilm, it has the potential to become a horror franchise. We'll keep our eye on the development of Unknown White Male, which is just one of many interesting Liam Neeson projects in the works right now.
