More 'Alias' Staff Become Writers on Mission: Impossible 4
August 7, 2009
by Alex Billington
It looks like Mission: Impossible 4 is on the right track. Paramount has hired Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec to write the screenplay. It was officially announced back in June that Tom Cruise and J.J. Abrams would be back to produce, but that's all that was set in stone so far. Applebaum and Nemec spent four seasons working with Abrams as co-executive producers on "Alias," and they will write M:I 4 based on a story Abrams wrote with them. Interestingly, the Variety article on this is being hazy about whether Ethan Hunt will be in it much, saying "Hunt will certainly be involved in an onscreen capacity." But not the lead?
"I've been looking forward to working with Josh and Andre again for years," Abrams said. "Their sense of balance between character and action is wonderful, which I know is hugely important to Tom as well. We're off to an exciting start, so, as usual, fingers crossed." Abrams last worked with screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci on Mission: Impossible 3, who also both came from writing and exec producing "Alias" as well. Applebaum and Nemec don't have much experience beyond a few various TV shows so far, but with Abrams guiding them, we can expect another great Mission: Impossible movie, that's for sure.

You know…. that would be kinda awesome if they threw Jennifer Garner in there (ala Alias) as the lead and just had Tom Cruise in the movie as a mentor type role.
Of course, I could just be talking out of my ass…

This'll be cool! I'm sure the writing would be good. I sure hope they have MI:2-type action in this new flick!

So does this mean Abrams has Mission Impossible as his priority, not Star Trek? Which one is coming out in 2011?
