First Look: Colin Farrell in Neil Jordan's New Film Ondine

I know that not everyone is the biggest fan of Colin Farrell, but I think he redeemed himself a bit with In Bruges last year. Farrell next stars in a few upcoming films, including in Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus as well as Danis Tanovic's Triage. He also stars in Neil Jordan's Ondine, described as a "lyrical modern fairy tale" about an Irish fisherman who finds what he believes to be a mermaid in his net one day. A few brand new photos from the film appeared in my email today and they're worth checking out, even if you don't like Colin Farrell much, as they feature a beautiful Polish actress named Alicja Bachleda.
Written and directed by Neil Jordan (of The Crying Game, Interview with the Vampire, The Brave One), Ondine is a lyrical modern fairy tale that tells the story of Syracuse (Colin Farrell), an Irish fisherman whose life is transformed when he catches a beautiful and mysterious woman (Alicja Bachleda) in his nets. His daughter Annie comes to believe that the woman is a magical creature, while Syracuse falls helplessly in love. However, like all fairy tales, enchantment and darkness go hand in hand. A story of love, hope and the unwavering belief in the impossible. This film will premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September.

The movie sounds interesting and, Alexander aside, I dig Colin Farrell. That being said, once it appears available I'll add it to the Flix list.

Crazy Heart (w/Jeff Bridges and Robert Duvall)
Aside from Minority Report, Farrell was just not suited for big studio movies. In fact, within the past year, he said he was finished with the studio system and stick to indie films.
It looks like that decision has served him well.

i honestly thought he was bad in In Bruges…..his acting seemed forced, to me. But I'm still willing to give him a chance elsewhere.
I also read that he's going to be replacing Johnny Depp in Gilliam's Don Quixote.

Farrell is taking on some great roles.. stuff that actuall gives him a chance to act and try new things - less Hollywood tripe. Good for him.

I have to agree with Alex this time:). Colin redeemed himself last year with "In Bruges" and appears to be taking some good roles. The story is interesting and I am hoping he continues to win people over. He was starting to become Nicholas Cage all over again. Although Nicholas Cage looks awesome in Kick-Ass.

Not a remake? Are you kidding? Ondine is a very old myth, and has been made in various artistic genres, including a movie.
