Promo Trailer for Richard Linklater's Me and Orson Welles

Me and Orson Welles is a film you probably haven't heard of yet, which is a bit sad considering it's a great film with great performances. Richard Linklater directors a period piece starring Zac Efron, Claire Danes, and Christian McKay about the Mercury Theatre production of "Julius Ceasar" directed by Orson Welles in 1937. The story is about Efron, the only teenager cast in the play. Efron actually does a great job in this, but the best performance is from McKay, who plays a spectacularly entertaining Orson Welles. I saw this in Toronto last year (read my review) and enjoyed it, but unfortunately it hasn't been picked up yet.
Watch the promo trailer for Richard Linklater's Me and Orson Welles:
Me and Orson Welles is directed by Oscar nominated filmmaker Richard Linklater, of everything films like Slacker, Dazed and Confused, Before Sunrise and Before Sunset, Waking Life, Fast Food Nation, and A Scanner Darkly. The screenplay was co-written by first-time writers Holly Gent Palmo and Vincent Palmo Jr. and is an adaptation of Robert Kaplow's novel of the same name. This first premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year but never ended up with a US distributor. As far as we know, this still doesn't have any release plans yet. Which is a shame, because Christian McKay's performance deserves some acclaim.

maybe this will help Efron escape from the Disney clutches and into a wider film spectrum.

Every time I watch a trailer in fullscreen on this site, it doesn't fit the screen correctly. The whole screen is filled, but the sides are chopped off. It's like watching a fullscreen DVD. Can this be changed?

Wow, some high praise from Roger Ebert…"Best film about the theater he's ever seen" definitely makes me want to check it out (despite it not being my usual choice of genre and actors)

@ #3, "…. whoever edited that up is awesome…"
How can you say that when the trailer gave away absolutely nothing about the movie and given Alex's comments about how good McKay's performance is, you would have thought there would be more that one line from him!!!
The trailer seems completely focused on Efron's character and given the movie was obviously filmed a couple of years ago and his appearance has started to change as he gets older, I can't help but think this has missed it's opportunity for a successful general release.

@#12,: I think there is an element of sarcasm in #3's "comment".

I agree with #12, all I said after the trailer was "Alright, thanks for showing me absolutely nothing about your movie".
From what I gather, he's an actor on a theater and that he's in love with the girl, thats pretty much it.
I have no comment on Efron as an actor or anything like that, all I know is that he's a "pretty boy" and I will never see one of his movies. Main reason is because I generally don't enjoy teenage actors.
And, a trailer that needs over three quotes telling the viewer that its good? Oh please, I hate being told that something is good when they could just as well actually show me WHY its good, instead of taking random scenes and put them together with fadein/fadeout and then adding those qoutes.

Seriously guys get a grip
The waves of destain for whatever defensive reasons about Efron are in the way of what could be an interesting trailer.
Agree with Alex - its a promo trailer trying to sell an Orson story which based on his character and McKay will likely be great.
Often you need to push stars names to pull it off - and I would much prefer Efron to be the name in the role of the kid vs. some gloss/pretty name as Orson
Give the kid a chance -per #5 - Depp was in 21 Jump St - generally actors have to start somewhere?
(i am curious and albeit potentially carrying the flamewar but I wonder if #14 is so negative about watching Samantha Fox? )
Hope to get a chance to see this film - which is why I enjoy finding out about these under the radar productions via trailers.

Big difference between Depp and DiCaprio and Efron is that Efron actually sucks dick (I saw him do it behind a Denny's in Maryland for 2 dollars).
