Paul W.S. Anderson Developing a New Death Race Prequel

One of my favorite parts of Death Race from last year (yep, I actually enjoyed it) was that it jumped right into the action. The opening race scene was awesome and there was already a history that we didn't really need to know anything more about. Well, STYD is now reporting that even though it made Universal a wimpy $36.3 million at the box office, Paul W.S. Anderson, Jeremy Bolt, and Impact Pictures are planning a prequel that will focus on the mysterious driver known as Frankenstein (seen above). Tony Giglio (Chaos, Timber Falls) has been hired to write the screenplay based on a story by Anderson and may also direct.
I don't think I need to remind everyone about this, but just in case - Death Race was a remake of the 1975 Paul Bartel cult classic Death Race 2000 in which Frankenstein was played by the late David Carradine. I believe it was Carradine who provided the voice of Frankenstein in the beginning of the remake before Jason Statham took over. Anderson and Bolt will oversee the Death Race prequel after they've completed Resident Evil: Afterlife on which Giglio will serve as a second unit director. I'm not going to lie - I'm actually excited for this. I enjoyed Death Race quite a bit and would love to see more of it, even without Statham.

Second most fun I've had at a theatre, after Drag Me To Hell. This would probably have everyone but Statham in it, but it would still be cool.
But PLEASE, no more shitty Dodge trucks!!!!

^lol It wasn;t bad. Good solid action flick. A prequel though, seriously? ugh…straight to DVD maybe. I wouldn't waste $8.50 on this. I netflix the remake and no regrets on waiting.

According to IMDB, it was Carradine that provided Frankenstein's voice in the remake.

Frankenstein! I would like to see his story and those 4 races he won. However, it won't be a major succes and I dissagre with these prequels. You make a film, you realise it's succesfull and you want to make more, but the end of the first film doesn't let you( or you could make a sequel, but with such a bad story than even you would close the project ); so… a prequel! Now, all it's about money and money and… more money. It's so hard to realise that an original film would be ruined if you continue with a franchise( when it's the case )??
Disappointing sequels and/or prequels that destroyed a franchise/original film( in my opinion! ): Blade Trinity, The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift( but Fast&Furious 4 was cool because it returns on the ORIGINAL story ) , Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem, Evan Almighty, Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Exorcist II: The Heretic, Exorcist: The Beginning, Dominion: Prequel To The Exorcist, Jurassic Park III; and the list could go on and on…

I enjoyed F&F( the original ) most. It's a great movie. Then F&F4. And I didn't quite enjoyed F&F2, but at least it wasn't disappointing. Like the F&F3 crap.

Of course you enjoyed it. You seem to love every shit flick out there. Though it must be difficult to have an open mind when they are dropping $ on you. Sellout.
