Lionsgate Distributing Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass in 2010

Matthew Vaughn's highly anticipated adaptation of Mark Millar's comic book series Kick-Ass finally has a distributor. Lionsgate has acquired US and Canadian distribution rights for Kick-Ass and will releasing it wide sometime in 2010. Vaughn funded and produced the adaptation entirely on his own, outside of the studio system, and unveiled the first bit of footage to fans at Comic-Con back in July. The buzz was so strong coming out of the Con, that Lionsgate got into a bidding war with Paramount and Universal, but the rights ended up going to Lionsgate in the end. Can't wait to see this hit theaters in all of its bloody, brilliant glory!
"Making and financing Kick-Ass has been an amazing experience, and we've had two important goals from the start: make a singularly entertaining film and find the right studio to release it. With Lionsgate, I know that I've got a supportive and fearless team behind me. It's going to be fun working together to bring the film to audiences and those who are already fans of the comic book," Vaughn said. Lionsgate is experienced in releasing very bloody films (which Kick-Ass will be), but they haven't had best of luck with comic book movies recently (remember The Spirit anyone?). Either way, I'm glad they're supporting Vaughn's vision.
There isn't an official release date set, so stay tuned for that and more information as it arrives. I'm looking forward to seeing a trailer sometime in the near future, as that'll really give audiences a taste of Kick-Ass!

i got a question the studio wont really care how much it makes right?
seeing how lionsgate only has to do promotional stuff for the film since the budget/cost and filming was all on Vaughn

eh yes they care………… if there was three studios bidding they may of well paid a fair amount of money to get the rights for the film.
you make it sound like a P&A budget its a few hundred dollars. They could spend millions if not 10s of millions promoting and disritbuting this.
who do u think gets most of the box office profit anyway? Mr Vaughn? No sorry.

Coming out of Comic-Con, this is the one movie I've been looking forward to. The clips they showed were just insane.
Just a shame we have to wait til 2010 to see it in full.

Why 2010?! WTF? Anyhow at least Lionsgate will finally have a movie to feel proud in having released. They usually ship out garbage downed like the best meal ever by the 16 year old male demographic.
