James McAvoy Set to Co-Star with Seth Rogen in I'm With Cancer
August 18, 2009
by Ethan Anderton
For quite awhile now, Superbad writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have been attached to produce fellow screenwriter Will Reiser's autobiographical screenplay I'm With Cancer, a comical chronicle of a 25-year-old's cancer diagnosis, and his subsequent struggle to beat the disease (similar to Funny People). Variety is reporting today that James McAvoy (Wanted, Atonement) has signed on to co-star with Rogen. Indie filmmaker Nicole Holofcener (Lovely & Amazing, Friends with Money) has also been set to direct. You might remember hearing about this back in December when it came in at #9 on the 2008 Black List.
While the film has not finalized its title (though it's based off a novel of the same name, it just might prove to be too depressing for mainstream audiences) the Mandate Pictures film will begin shooting sometime in January. As of now, I'm a bit leery of the pairing of a comedic force like Rogen with a mostly dramatic actor like McAvoy. On top of that, Nicole Holofcener isn't exactly a director who screams comedy, especially with two male leads (she's previously directed episodes of "Sex and the City" and "Gilmore Girls" and female lead feature films). Having read the truly touching script, I really hope that this film comes together smoothly.

Hmm, if you say it's a truly touching script, it should be fine with a mostly dramatic actor like Avoy.
He is a good actor. My only problem is, I just don't like him. I don't know, his face always makes me wanna club a seal.
Something about him just annoys me. But, who knows, there have been other actors who suddenly won me over with a completely different role. *shrugs*
