Darren Bousman Picks Jaime King to Lead Mother's Day Cast
August 19, 2009
by Alex Billington
Darren Lynn Bousman has chosen a cast for his Mother's Day remake, which starts shooting next month in Winnipeg. Sin City actress Jaime King has joined the cast as the "woman of the house" with X-Men's Shawn Ashmore and Sorority Row's Briana Evigan as her guests. Charles Kaufman's original 1980 Troma cult classic revolved around three friends who run afoul of two brothers who engage in murder and rape to impress their deranged mother. The new version is being remolded as a psychological thriller in which the wicked family returns to the house where they grew up to terrorize the new owners and guests.
"What we're trying to do is elevate this outside of a genre movie," Bousman said. "I've done three Saw films, I've done Repo, and yes, this is horrific at times, but it's much darker and deeper because of the focus on the characters." As mentioned before, King will play the new owner of the house, a wife who has lost her child and is isolating herself from her husband. On the "bad side," Sorority Row actor Matt O'Leary has joined the cast as one of Mother's sons, along with "True Blood's" Deborah Ann Woll as another member of the family. They haven't revealed who will be playing the Mother yet or what role Alexa Vega will be playing.
I'm digging the way that Bousman is approaching this, and the cast is awesome, so I'm admittedly looking forward to it. Even though it is another remake, I'm just excited to see it get re-imagined under the direction of Darren Bousman. The screenplay was written by newcomer Scott Milam. Twisted Pictures is heading into production soon in order to have this ready for release around Mother's Day next year, May 9th. Oh and you can follow Darren on Twitter (@darren_bousman) and Jaime King on Twitter (@Jaime_King) for updates.

More remakes. I say we take off and nuke Hollywood from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
