So Moriarty Might Actually Be in Sherlock Holmes After All?

Something fishy is going on. Earlier this week a rumor hit courtesy of the untrustworthy British tabloid The Daily Mirror claiming that Brad Pitt had been cast in a small cameo role in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes as the evil Professor Moriarty. We didn't run it because, well, it just seemed untrue from the start. Warner Brothers was quick to dispel the rumor, saying that "Brad Pitt is not joining the cast." But now MTV is saying that might have just been a very careful choice of words on there part, as they have seemingly have proof from Guy Ritchie himself that Moriarty might indeed be showing up in the movie. Wait, really?
When asked if Moriarty would show up, this was Ritchie's response: "Some kind of an appearance is probably the best way to describe it." And when asked if an actor is credited for the role, his answer was: "I believe not." Ritchie also added: "I don't know how to answer that other than to say there is some kind of appearance. All will be revealed. I'm afraid I have to be slightly ambiguous about this but you'll understand what I'm talking about when you see the movie." Of course, all will be revealed on Christmas Day when this hits theaters. So is MTV reading too much into this? Or is there now some truth to that early rumor?
I remember when we first started hearing casting details, a lot of Sherlock Holmes fans were upset that the evil Professor Moriarty, the ultimate arch-nemesis of Holmes, wasn't going to be in the movie. I didn't have a problem because I thought it was a smart move to save someone like that for sequels, where they could focus more on that villain rather than establishing the characters (like they have to do in this one). Now I'm wondering, though, if Ritchie has put him in there in a sly way, like in a photo in a newspaper or hidden without actually having him be there, kind of like how the Joker showed up at the end of Batman Begins.

Well this is reminding of Tropic Thunder where Tom Cruise was supposed to be unknown until the movie dropped, but it was ruined when somone snapped a pic of Cruise in the Les Grossman outfit.
Perhaps Ritchie was trying to do something similar here and this tabloid magazine has almost ruined it?

I just hope that Sherlock is good if they set it up for an even better sequel. What I mean is they have to make people want it to be a franchise rather than just doing a sequel because they can.
If you've seen Super Mario Bros. the movie, you know what I am talking about with bad movie franchises and sequel set-ups.
The trailers all make the movie look amazing, but then again, i thought the same for Spider-man 3. Keeping my fingers crossed.

he is in it. That's no surprise. script reports have been out there for months. He has a cameo at the end. Whether it's Brad Pitt or not… that's something else, but he is in the picture.

I heard about this a couple weeks ago on a different site. I'm all for it, especially if there's a chance he might actually play the character in a sequel!
