Catherine Hardwicke Lands Red Riding Hood & 21 Jump Street

It looks like Twilight might have really helped her career after all. Catherine Hardwicke has landed two new upcoming projects - the Warner Brothers reboot of Little Red Riding Hood and Jonah Hill's 21 Jump Street movie, as reported by the Risky Biz Blog today. We've already heard about both projects before, and both of them sound fairly interesting. However, Hardwicke will have to choose between those two and a third project, the the contemporary Hamlet adaptation she's developing with Emile Hirsch, because all three are priority projects for their respective studios and she has to choose only one next year.
Little Red Riding Hood is expected to offer a "Gothic update" on the Grimm Brothers tale, which as we all know is about a young girl who encounters the villainous wolf on her way to her grandmother's house, with David Leslie Johnson (Orphan) writing the new version. 21 Jump Street, which Jonah Hill is writing to also star in, will be an action-heavy retelling of the late 80's Fox television series. The show - which was one of the first hits for the then-fledgling network and launched the career of Johnny Depp - centered on a group of twenty-something policemen who looked young enough to go undercover in high schools and colleges.
I'm not particularly a fan of Hardwicke's directing, but I do support strong female filmmakers, which she most certainly is. I think she really dropped by the ball on Twilight, although not all of the problems with that movie were necessarily her fault. Hardwicke is also attached to adaptations of Gayle Forman's If I Stay and James Patterson's Maximum Ride, so she has a lot to choose from. If I had to make a suggestion for her, I'd say she should go with Red Riding Hood, because she doesn't seem like the right fit for 21 Jump Street. I prefer a director with a little more grit for that one, but that's just me. What should she direct next?

She should do "Little Red Riding Hood". A gothic story with a contemporary spin–this could redeem her from the "Twilight" debacle!

lords of dogtown and thirteen were good movies. i think one of the maid problems with twilight thats a lot of directors take the heat for is bad screenwriting!!!!! if you had a bad script, not ven the best director can save it. with that said, i think she should do the red riding hood.

I am a Twilight fan, and if she directs anything else it should be a crosswalk for children. I never saw Thirteen and Lords of Dogtown, but apparently since (to my husband) Johnny Knoxville was in it, it was good.
