Casting Bits: Elizabeth Banks in 3 Days, Justin Theroux in Highness
August 24, 2009
by Alex Billington
Two casting tidbits to report on from THR. The lovely Elizabeth Banks has joined the cast of Paul Haggis' next film The Next Three Days, an English language remake of the 2008 French film Pour Elle. Banks takes on the lead role opposite Russell Crowe. Banks will play a woman who is imprisoned for a murder she claims she didn't commit, as her husband comes up with a desperate plan to free her from prison. Haggis, who last directed In the Valley of Elah, wrote the script and will direct, with filming scheduled to begin next month in Pittsburgh. Wouldn't have expect to see her in this role, but I think that makes it all the better. Read on!
Actor-turned-writer-turned-actor Justin Theroux has joined the cast of the currently in-production comedy Your Highness being directed by David Gordon Green. Theroux will play the villain Leezar, an evil wizard with a bejeweled magical staff who kidnaps the princess played by Zooey Deschanel. Danny McBride, James Franco, Natalie Portman and Deschanel all star in the medieval stoner comedy from the same guy who brought us Pineapple Express. Theroux, who appeared American Psycho and Mulholland Dr., switched to writing to pen Tropic Thunder and Iron Man 2, is now jumping back into acting a bit.
