Mike Leigh Starts Shooting His Next Project in London

English filmmaker Mike Leigh has started production on his next new film following the Oscar nominated film Happy-Go-Lucky, which received heaps of critical acclaim. The project is untitled and Leigh is keeping a lid on plot details (much like Woody Allen), but we do know who's in the cast: Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Taking Woodstock), Jim Broadbent (Hot Fuzz, The Damned United, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince), Philip Davis (Vera Drake, Cassandra's Dream), David Bradley (Filch in Harry Potter) and Stuart McQuarrie (28 Days Later, "The Bill"). Quite an impressive English cast.
Many of Leigh's regular crew also are on board as well, including Oscar nominated cinematographer Dick Pope (The Illusionist, Happy-Go-Lucky), editor Jon Gregory, casting director Nina Gold, costume designer Jacqueline Durran and hair and make-up supervisor Chrissie Blundell. I wish we had more to tell you about this, but that's all their really is. I never did see Happy-Go-Lucky, even though I heard great things about it, not to mention Sally Hawkins winning numerous awards and its 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. I'm looking forward to seeing more from this new Mike Leigh film soon and hopefully catching it at a festival next year.

Oh sweet, never checked out Happy-go-lucky so Ive just chucked it in my LveFilm (uk version of Netflix) list.
By the way, the actor David Bradley is much more well known to the UK audience as Billy in the fantastic British film 'Kes'.

I watched the first half hour of this movie and found it incredibly boring and then turned it off. I'm sure it's a great film for the people who like the super quirky foreign dramas, but for me the genre's not my cup of tea. I'm sure it has a high rating because the people who take the time to seek out movies like this one already know that it's a unique genre and are looking for something very different to perpetuate their eliteness.
If you go into this movie without knowing anything about it I bet you'll turn it off fairly quickly too, but if you're already a fan of the cast and concept from their previous work then you might enjoy yourself.
