Must Watch: The Men Who Stare at Goats Official Trailer
August 28, 2009
Source: Apple
by Alex Billington
Overture Films has debuted the official trailer for George Clooney's The Men Who Stare at Goats today, directed by Clooney's long-time producer and friend Grant Heslov. I know this would be something special, I just knew it. I kept hearing about it and the great cast they had and everything, but I hadn't seen anything from it. I was waiting to be surprised at its debut up in Toronto next month, but then this trailer popped up online yesterday and now the entire internet is buzzing about it! It really looks hilarious and just so damn entertaining in so many ways. I won't say anything more besides that you need to watch this, right now!

The Men Who Stare at Goats is directed by former actor and producer Grant Heslov, of only the comedy Par 6 previously and some episodes of "Unscripted". The screenplay was written by Peter Straughan, of Sixty Six and How to Lose Friends & Alienate People previously. This is based on Jon Ronson's book of the same name. The film was produced independently and will premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. Overture Films will be bringing The Men Who Stare at Goats to limited theaters starting on November 6th later this year.

When I first read this synopsis last year I thought it sounded absolutely terrible. After this trailer though, I'm pretty into this. I'll definitely be checking it out.

Who knew that some mullet wearing chowderhead on Roseanne and the Facts of Life would become such a phenomenal actor who makes all these amazing movies? Clooney is awesome and I'm now officially stoked as eff to check this out.

they keep talking about Jedi mind tricks I'm hoping Ewan does some self-referential Obi-Wan thing in the movie

#16 I agree. It definitely looks like something different for a change and looks like everyone involved really had a good time with the movie.

It's like "The Dude" joins the Army
What's scary is the website name. It's www.themenwhostareatgoatsmovie.com, which they had to add the "movie" part at the end. This leads me to believe that www.themenwhostareatgoats.com was already taken…and I really don't want to find out what THAT website is all about O_o

this could be good…………..but, it might be they just showed the best parts in this trailer and the movie itself won't be that great. i don't think i'll see this in the theatre; but, i'll put it on my netflix save list.

Wished Clooney had directed it…I know, work the guy to death, but he really is a good director!

I love Jon Ronson, and this book has a very interesting story. I'm sure this film will be good, but will people PLEASE stop giving Ewan McGregor parts with foreign accents. I can't take him seriously anymore. I think it's since he's done the long way round/down that I've not been able to watch any of his films without noticing how he pronounces everything
Jonathan Kemp on Aug 28, 2009

Looks awesome. What a fantastic cast! I like that Clooney's character uses the term Jedi Warrior when he's talking to "Obi Wan". Yes, call me a nerd. =P
If the movie is half as funny as the trailer it will be amazing. So, hopefully this wasn't just a compilation of the movies best moments.

This looks….ok. But it's not that great. I didn't laugh once. Strange that (based on the responses here) people are practically falling over themselves to praise this?
Clooney ran over the guy in the desert, just as he was saying "we're here to help" - gee, who didn't see that coming?
Or the one at the end, where Bridges rushes to deny the charges, only to….not deny *all* the charges.
Again, no surprise. It's the same dead-obvious punchline you get at the end of an Alvin & The Chipmunks trailer.
Not saying the movie doesn't look interesting, and might be funny when see the whole thing.
But based on the trailer, it doesn't look hilarious.

thanks for bringing us down Magellan, we were all having fun praising it.
Xerxex on Aug 28, 2009
43
Oh I'm not saying it's bad. It might turn out to be the funniest film of all time. It's a dream cast, for sure. Just, based on the trailer, it didn't do it for me.
Elsewhere, personally I thought Avatar looked alright :/ What can ya do? My small criticism of this, is a lot more polite than the spew being hurled at Avatar
Magellan on Aug 28, 2009
44
then I'm sorry for my snappy comment, and I get your Avatar comment, that warranted. Who knows maybe this will wow you!

Looks funny, and they've collected quite alot of good actors for it - I'd watch it for sure.

looks dumb and its not true, lol. the only people who are allowed to grow their hair out of regulations in uniforms are navy seals when they are in a war zone.

Oh hell yes…sign me up!!!
Gave me the same side splitting laughs that the Hangover trailer and The Informant trailer gave me…I think this'll be a slice of fried gold!!
Let's just hope this isn't misrepresented like Burn After Reading was…

I'm with #50. I can't believe so many people think this looks good. The only thing remotely funny was the hooker line, and even that was predictable.

#46 You should think before you speak. You should also get off that Navy S.E.A.L.'s dick you're on. If you've ever been in a war zone you would know that the list of people allowed to do that is much more vast than your pathetic Navy S.E.A.L. CA, Delta Force, Pretty much every special forces team and let's not forget those people with profiles for shaving. I'm also willing to bet that you've never seen a uniformed secret service agent running around in full uniform minus his patches. Get a life. That would require you to swallow that spunk and step out of the house.
