Huh? So is Rose McGowan Still In or Out as Red Sonja?

Remember those wonderful mock-up posters that Robert Rodriguez debuted at Comic-Con last year for Red Sonja? You can see a cut of one above or see more of them here. Word is now that Rose McGowan may not even be starring in that project either. Its been a really tough year for McGowan - back in May we learned why the Barbarella remake Rodriguez was developing for her to star in was shut down. Besides that she hasn't really landed any big roles and presumably the two big ones she was setting up have fallen apart. This latest update comes from Twitter, where McGowan herself says she "pulled out" of Red Sonja last year.
Here's her Tweet from earlier this week: "Just this once i'll address questions about Red Sonja&others;i was meant to do in '08. Major personal &private;reasons I pulled out.Starting 2 want to work again. Sometimes real life fucking sucks.That's all. God bless us survivors." But wait. She followed that up with a few more updates in the past few days. "To clarify press reports: Red Sonja is delayed. I pulled out of doing it in '09. Not permanently. Hopefully will follow Conan." She also added separately: "I am still contracted to do it Red Sonja. Hopefully Filming in '10 not '09." That makes a lot more sense, but a little backtracking, eh?
This falls in line with what producer Joe Gatta said back in June - that he's confident that Red Sonja will start shooting sometime in 2010 and also confirms that it will be an origin story that ignores the previous movie and will be based on the Marvel heroine. Like Conan, which will be directed by Marcus Nispel, this project isn't going to be directed by Robert Rodriguez either, it'll be helmed by his friend and co-worker Doug Aarniokoski. From the sounds of it, McGowan was just explaining why it's delayed, and that she almost left, but that she still might do it in 2010. Or at least that's the sense I get - we'll keep you updated!

According to her Twitter the movie is just delayed. She pulled out of doing it in 09 but still contracted to do it in 2010.
