Guillermo del Toro Developing Adaption of DC's Deadman
August 30, 2009

by Alex Billington
Yet another new comic book adaptation in the works (not a surprise). Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that Guillermo del Toro is developing and producing an adaptation of the DC Comics character Deadman. Warner Brothers has apparently set Danish filmmaker Nikolaj Arcel, of Island of Lost Souls previously, to direct the Deadman movie. Not much else is known, except that it's being described as a Crow-esque thriller about a circus tightrope walker who is murdered and returns as a ghost with the ability to inhabit the bodies if others in order to find his killer. Thankfully this sounds like it'll be better than The Invisible.
Deadman first appeared in Strange Adventures #205 (in October 1967) and was created by Arnold Drake and Carmine Infantino. This is admittedly the first time I've even heard of this character, but he sounds like he has an intriguing story that could make for a great movie. Of course, without too much to go off of, it's hard to tell this early if it'll be any good, but there is one big factor that makes a difference - Guillermo del Toro. Any time he's involved on something it usually means the filmmaker attached is talented and that the source material is strong enough for a great cinematic story. I trust that's the case on this Deadman movie.

Are you serious about this being the first time you heard of Deadman? I think he is one of the best, most intriguing characters in comics let alone DC. I'm more of Marvel guy but, always thought that DC had one up on Marvel with this character cause of how different and controversial he is, especially when they created him. I'm VERY interested to see what del Toro has in store for this.

Of all the superheroes Guillermo could've have picked, I'm not surprised he'd pick up Deadman
I hope that Guillermo will remember that Deadman will always have that, "dead and loving it" vibe about him.

I saw Deadman on an episode of Justice League Unlimited. I didn't know who he was until then. That episode was really good and I wanted to see more of him. However, I do agree with #3…I'd like to see more of the main characters first (and don't forget GL). I think it would be cool to see Lobo and his bad azz bike on the next Superman movie. I can really see Superman and Lobo trying to tear each other apart and then having to work together to fight a greater threat. Then they go about their seperate ways. And then of course, a Lobo spinoff movie. And for God sakes, please make it rated R. LOL!!!
