Very Short First Teaser for Roman Polanski's The Ghost

The Ghost Teaser

You might not know (or forgot), but Polish-French director Roman Polanski has been working on a new film titled The Ghost since last year. We wrote about it a few times while it was casting, but that's about it. Ewan McGregor stars as a ghostwriter hired to complete the memoirs of a former British prime minister played by Pierce Brosnan. This teaser appeared recently on the official website for The Ghost (that I didn't even know existed until now) found at: theghost-romanpolanski.com. For a 15-second teaser, it looks fantastic, and I'm definitely very interested in seeing more from this. Glad to have Polanski back again.

First Quirky Trailer for Jonathan Parker's Indie 'Untitled'

Untitled Trailer

Wow does Marley Shelton just look gorgeous in this or what?! Moviefone has debuted the trailer for the indie comedy Untitled written and directed by Jonathan Parker. The film stars Adam Goldberg, Marley Shelton, Vinnie Jones, and Eion Bailey. We actually featured a few photos from this back in March, since it already premiered at the Palm Springs Film Festival last year. Due to my love for quirky indie films (that should be seen at festivals), I'm naturally interested in this, although I have a feeling not many others will be. It's so weird I kind of hope everyone watches the trailer. And did I say Marley Shelton is damn cute?

Ron Shelton Directing Another Golf Comedy Called 'Q School'

Kevin Costner in Tin Cup

A golf comedy? Now that is something we haven't seen in a while. Yes, I know that Caddyshack and Happy Gilmore are the best of the best and pretty much unbeatable, but still, it's a sport that could be milked for more comedy, so why not? Right? THR announces that Ron Shelton, who directed the golf comedy Tin Cup and White Men Can't Jump, will helm Q School, a golf comedy based on a script he co-wrote with Tin Cup collaborator John Norville. Dennis Quaid and Tim Allen are interested in starring roles in the project, but haven't signed on yet. Shooting is set to start in the spring. Will this be able to live up to Caddyshack?

Kyle Ward Set to Adapt Steve Niles' Comic Criminal Macabre

Criminal Macabre

Yet another comic book adaptation in the works. Universal Pictures has acquired Criminal Macabre, the Dark Horse Entertainment comic book mini-series created by 30 Days of Night author Steve Niles. The studio has hired Kyle Ward (3 Rounds, Fiasco Heights, upcoming Kane & Lynch) to write the screenplay based of the comic. The story centers around a supernatural detective who doubles as hitman, taking out all the vampires, ghosts and other unsavory monsters who live among humans, hiding in the shadows by day and emerging at night. This is probably a great comic, but I'm just getting tired of these monster stories.

Creepy Trailer for Alien Abduction Thriller The Fourth Kind

The Fourth Kind Trailer

A UFO sighting is referred to as an encounter of the first kind. When evidence is collected, it is known as an encounter of the second kind. Contact with extraterrestrials, is an encounter of the third kind. The next level, abduction, is the fourth kind. This encounter has been the most difficult to document... Until now. Universal has debuted the official trailer for the sci-fi thriller The Fourth Kind starring Milla Jovovich on Hulu (you can also watch it on SciFi Wire if you're not in the US). I will only say that this looks very creepy. It just came out of nowhere, I didn't even know this movie existed until today, but damn, does it look crazy!

Abbie Cornish Says Sucker Punch Has Three Levels of Insanity

Abbie Cornish

As excited as I am for Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch to get underway, we still really don't know that much about it. I mean, we've got the basic premise (that an institutionalized girl retreats into an alternative reality in order to try and escape the mental hospital), but as for exactly what takes place and how it'll all look, that still remains a secret (though I'd really love to read the script). Abbie Cornish, who plays one of the four "wild-child" friends of the lead character Baby Doll in the movie, revealed just a bit more about what's going on (via Emily Browning Online). And from the sounds of it, it'll be pretty twisted and quite awesome.

Must Watch: Jared Hess' Gentlemen Broncos Official Trailer

Gentlemen Broncos Trailer

Fox Searchlight has debuted the official trailer for Napoleon Dynamite director Jared Hess' latest film Gentlemen Broncos on Apple today. Yesterday we revealed the poster (and all of the crazy characters on it), now you can find out what this is all about. Gentlemen Broncos stars "Flight of the Conchords" member Jemaine Clement as well as Michael Angarano, Jennifer Coolidge, Mike White, and even Sam Rockwell. I personally think this looks hilarious, but that's because I'm a big Napoleon Dynamite fan, and it looks like Jared Hess has made another film in that same vein, but with zany fantasy elements and so much more.

Valkyrie's Christopher McQuarrie Writing the Wolverine Sequel

Christopher McQuarrie

And everyone thought this sequel was going to suck! THR has announced that Oscar winning screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie, of The Usual Suspects, The Way of the Gun, and Valkyrie most recently, has been hired by Fox to write the next Wolverine movie. Hugh Jackman is set to return and will also produce along with Lauren Shuler Donner. The movie's story line will take its cue from the early 1980s Frank Miller / Chris Claremont mini-series, which is set in Japan and has Wolverine dealing with ninjas as he struggles whether to follow his animal killer instincts or a new life under a samurai's code of honor and respect.

The Weekly Moviegoer - Paying More for Better Movies

Buying Movie Tickets

We're all familiar with the phrase "you get what you pay for." But how many times have you come away from a movie thinking you were ripped off? How often do you think you really got what you paid for with the experience? Do you see fewer films because of the ticket cost, and would you go to the movies more often and see more kinds of movies if they weren't so expensive? You don't have to actually answer any of these questions, though, but they're at least ideas to think about. I've been driving my brain crazy lately trying to figure out how the cost of a movie affects our experience with it, especially in relation to critical opinions.

F. Gary Gray's Law Abiding Citizen Trailer with Gerard Butler

Law Abiding Citizen Trailer

Whoa, I did not see this coming! The trailer for F. Gary Gray's Law Abiding Citizen starring Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx has debuted on Entertainment Tonight (via GerardButler.net). Normally they re-edit and screw up the trailer, but this time they have a clean embed of the trailer, even though it's a lot smaller than I'd like it. This is another one of those revenge stories, but you just wait, it starts to get a bit interesting part of the way through. I don't know why, but I wasn't expecting anything special - boy was I wrong! This looks awesome, I can't wait to see how it plays out and what the heck is even going on!

Hamlet to Be the First of Six 3D Shakespeare Adaptations

Shakespeare 4 Kidz - Hamlet

And if that headline doesn't have you excited, then you just wait. The laughably named UK theatre company Shakespeare 4 Kidz (which I can only assume is in cahoots with Kidz Bop over here in the States) is moving forward with a six-picture deal to market Shakespeare to (what they say is) the Harry Potter and High School Musical market, according to Variety. I'd say the latter market is correct, but I'd replace Harry Potter with the Twilight crowd. But that's just me. Hamlet: The 3-D Musical is up first to be followed by Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Twelfth Night, and The Tempest. Still on board?

They Cast Movies, Don't They? - Jon Heder and Maggie Q

Jon Heder

A quick casting update - and no, Jon Heder and Maggie Q are not starring in the same film. Up first is Jon Heder who will star in the adaptation of the sci-fi novel "Buddy Holly is Alive and Well on Ganymede." According to Variety, Heder will be playing Oliver Vale, your everyday geek who just so happens to be the only one who understands why Buddy Holly turns up on every TV channel - and is being pursued by a mob of aliens. Up next is Maggie Q - oh, sweet Maggie Q - who joins the cast of Priest. We first wrote about the TokyoPop vampire property that Screen Gems is developing with Paul Bettany set to star back in March.
