Brandon Blows Out His Speakers Watching It Might Get Loud

It Might Get Loud

If the world was to end tomorrow, tonight I'd want to be with Jack White and his blood-stained guitar. And whether that guitar be hand carved, plastic, or merely a plank, a coke bottle, and a single amped wire -- with Jack White plucking the strings, the world would end and my eyes would be closed. And that's actually how I found myself for much of An Inconvenient Truth director Davis Guggenheim's latest music documentary, It Might Get Loud -- with my eyes closed. I had to consciously remind myself that what I was seeing before me was at times just as beautiful and illuminating as what I was hearing. And always as impacting.

Rumor: Legendary Pictures Developing New Godzilla Movie?!

Godzilla

Another day, another remake! But this isn't just a simple remake, oh no, not at all. Godzilla has been in some 28 movies over 55 years, including Roland Emmerich's recent disaster (no pun intended) of a movie from 1998. But even after all that, he's still coming back for more. Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that Legendary Pictures, the production company responsible for The Dark Knight and Watchmen, is "in early discussions" on another Godzilla movie of sorts. Word is that it will be a reboot, and not a remake or a sequel (which is at least good news I think), but that's all that they know (this is very early). Oh goodness.

MGM's Poltergeist Remake Gets a Late 2010 Release Date

Poltergeist

And we thought this would never happen! We last wrote about MGM's Poltergeist remake more than a year ago, stating only that Ukrainian filmmaker Vadim Perelman (House of Sand and Fog, The Life Before Her Eyes) was attached to direct. ShockTillYouDrop has now confirmed that MGM has set a November 24th, 2010 release date for the new Poltergeist and that Perelman is still directing. According to IMDb, the script was written by Juliet Snowden and Stiles White (Boogeyman, Knowing). But no other details were revealed or are currently known at this time, including when it stars shooting or anything about the cast.

Sony Pictures Classics Releasing Gilliam's Imaginarium in December

Heath Ledger - Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

I'm surprised it took this long (after Cannes and Comic-Con) for Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus to find a distributor here in the US, but that's how Hollywood works I guess. Variety has confirmed what we've been hearing - Sony Pictures Classics has acquired Parnassus and will release it sometime later this year. SlashFilm is saying that it might hit on Christmas Day, but that's an early rumor, and they might do a staggered release to build Oscar buzz anyway. An international trailer for Parnassus hit the web recently as well (watch it here), but I've been waiting for a high definition version of it to feature.

Bryan Singer is Interested in a Battlestar Galactica Feature Film?

Battlestar Galactica - Concept Art

Hot damn! Now this is something I can get excited about, and I'm not even a big Battlestar Galactica fan! Our cohorts over at HitFix are reporting (from a source they don't reveal?) that Bryan Singer is nearing a deal with Universal to produce and possibly direct a brand new Battlestar Galactica feature film (that will go to theaters). The Ronald Moore TV series recently came to its conclusion back in March earlier this year, but much like Joss Whedon's Firefly, the fans of the show are very vocal and very large in number, therefore Universal has realized that there is still quite a bit of potential, which is where this all comes into play.

First Look: Woody Harrelson As and In the Comedy Defendor

Woody Harrelson as Defendor

Where did this even come from? Earlier this year, the LA Film Festival premiered a film called Paper Man, that starred Ryan Reynolds as a wanna-be superhero. Now along comes Defendor, which is premiering at the Toronto Film Festival, also comedy starring Woody Harrelson as a wanna-be superhero. Some photos have popped up online for this courtesy of both TIFF and SlashFilm and it looks pretty damn good. At least the costume Harrelson made looks great, especially the duct tape D on his chest. Defendor is both written and directed by actor-turned-filmmaker Peter Stebbings. Anyway, I've said enough, juut check these out!

Might We See Jonathan Mostow's Sub-Mariner Movie Soon?

Sub-Mariner

Even more Marvel movies? Of course! Though we haven't heard much about Sub-Mariner in a long time. It was first announced way back in 2006, but since Universal owns the rights, it's their little feature, and it won't be a part of the Marvel Universe that Marvel Studios is developing on their own. Collider caught up with Surrogates director Jonathan Mostow recently and coaxed him into talking about the status of the project off camera, because his response on camera was pretty bland: "Well Sub-Mariner is sort of, like all things Marvel, in a shroud of secrecy. It's a project I've been developing, and we'll see what happens."

Must Watch: First Red Band Trailer for Paul Bettany's Legion

Legion

Remember that badass banner from Comic-Con that had Paul Bettany on it as the Archangel Michael carrying an MP5? Well a polished version of the first red band trailer they showed during Comic-Con has officially debuted online today (via MySpace) and I'm pretty sure everyone just needs to check this out. The movie is called Legion and it also stars Dennis Quaid, Kevin Durand, Tyrese Gibson, Adrianne Palicki, and Doug Jones (as the creepy Ice Cream Man from the beginning). This looks a bit better than it did during the Con, but I just still can't get into it. It's way too B-movie horror for my tastes, but I expect others to dig it.

Interview: District 9 Screenwriter & Director Neill Blomkamp

Director Neill Blomkamp

I'm going to be completely honest - this might have been one of the best interviews I've ever done. A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to sit down and talk with Neill Blomkamp, the man behind the upcoming sci-fi film District 9 that hits theaters this weekend (go see it!). We talk about everything from how this came together, the five months he spent working on the Halo movie with Peter Jackson, how they pulled off all of the visual effects, both practical and CGI, and how the story developed over time. It's a very in-depth interview but one of the best you'll hear on D9! There are a few spoilers, but nothing big, so don't worry!

Exclusive: Jared Hess' Gentlemen Broncos Poster Revealed!

Gentlemen Broncos Poster Revealed

Fox Searchlight has let us exclusively debut the official poster for Napoleon Dynamite director Jared Hess' next film Gentlemen Broncos today! Yep, that's "Flight of the Conchords" star Jemaine Clement above and you'll also see Michael Angarano below, as he's actually the lead in this. The trailer debuts tomorrow but I've had the chance to see it and I guarantee if you loved Napoleon Dynamite, you'll love this as well. It looks hilarious and completely original thanks to the crazy, brilliant mind of Jared Hess. All those wacky characters seen along the side of the poster will be explained, but until then, I'll let them remain a mystery.

No Surprise - Microsoft Says the Halo Movie is Still On Hold

Halo Concept Art

Aww shucks! Last weekend a big rumor hit the web that claimed that Steven Spielberg was now attached as a producer (instead of Peter Jackson) on the Halo movie. Although IESB said that they had confirmed this multiple times, we sensed it was just either a very early development or a big rumor. Since that news hit, other people closer to Microsoft have tried to get confirmation, including the gaming website Kotaku. But alas, what they discovered, is what we expected all along - that it's still on hold. Oh and that they have "nothing further to share with respect to plans regarding a Halo movie." Of course they have nothing!
