Sony Picks Up Mike White's Babe in the Woods Spec Script
Columbia Pictures, which is part of Sony, has acquired Babe in the Woods, an original action-comedy spec script written by School of Rock writer Mike White. Babe in the Woods is about a female freshman from the Midwest who arrives at Yale and becomes a target of the New Jersey mob. In addition to School of Rock, White also wrote Dead Man on Campus, Orange County, Nacho Libre, and Year of the Dog. He'll do a polish on the script before it goes out to directors and cast. While it's setup at Columbia, White's Rip Cord Productions, which recently finished work on Jared Hess' Gentlemen Broncos, will be developing this.

Worth Watching: Sandra Bullock's The Blind Side Trailer
You threaten my son, you threaten me! A trailer for an upcoming drama called The Blind Side starring Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw debuted on Yahoo recently. Here's the thing - it's a great story about giving this kid another chance, and I should be praising it for that alone. However, Sandra Bullock was the wrong choice for this. Any other actress would've done a much better job, but that's almost besides the point. This is actually a movie about football and how he becomes a integral part of the team, but the trailer barely even shows that until the end. Even though I've got some gripes, I'll still say I think it looks good.

James McTeigue Directing 'The Raven' Next, About Edgar Allan Poe
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary... James McTeigue is still one of my favorite directors. He started work as the first AD for the Wachowski's on all three Matrix movies and broke out directing V for Vendetta. His second film, Ninja Assassin, is due in theaters in November. I saw the movie at Comic-Con, but can't talk about it yet (except to say it was awesome). I'm still looking forward to anything he does and thankfully SlashFilm has an update on what his next project might be. It's called The Raven and is a fictionalized account of the final five "mysterious" days of poet Edgar Allan Poe's life.

Early Reviews of Up in the Air Say it Has Oscar Potential?
Some early reviews from a recent test screening of Jason Reitman's Up in the Air have been appearing on numerous sites scattered across the web today. The funny thing is that they all come from one guy that goes by the name "Marlowe." Either way, he says some really great things, and I wanted to at least pull some of his quotes from the review published on Jeffrey Wells' Hollywood Elsewhere (there's another one on IESB as well). I feel a bit justified saying "I am probably more excited for Jason Reitman's Up in the Air than I am any other movie the rest of this year" in the announcement that it was premiering in Toronto next month.

Milo Ventimiglia Cinemashes Park Chan-wook's Oldboy
The latest awesome must-watch Cinemash video has arrived today, this time featuring "Heroes" actor Milo Ventimiglia cinemashing Park Chan-wook's Oldboy and the infamous hammer-hallway never-ending fight scene. "One of TV's true 'Heroes' takes revenge on a group of greedy corporate AIG executives who are strapping on their golden parachutes to escape responsibility for their misdeeds." This is actually made incredibly well, I'm impressed that they could pull this off, it really looks great. Now I want to put in some of Park Chan-wook's movies and sit through the Vengeance trilogy all over again, damnit. Bring it!

Basterds Goes Viral - Fredrick Zoller's Nation's Pride Trailer
This isn't really a true ARG viral or anything, but it is pretty damn cool anyway. Apple has debuted a trailer for the German WWII film Nation's Pride starring Nazi hero Fredrick Zoller. What the heck is Nation's Pride? It's the movie-within-a-movie that plays an integral part in the plot of Inglourious Basterds. In the movie, this has its world premiere at a theater being run by Shosanna Dreyfus, and everyone last prominent German figure, including Adolf Hitler, will be attending the premiere, which is exactly why the Basterds show up there as well (to kill 'em all). This trailer was dubbed in English, so it is still watchable.

Jason Segel Joins the Cast of The Adventurer's Handbook
Does this cast seem a bit old to you? Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Jason Segel is the latest to join the cast of The Adventurer's Handbook, the crazy new comedy written by Jonah Hill and Max Winkler that SNL's Akiva Schaffer is directing. The Adventurer's Handbook is the big spec script that Hill and Winkler sold to Universal back in February, about four 20-something guys, who inspired by a book of the same name, set out overseas in search of a mysterious location described in the book. It's apparently going to be an edgy, broad R-rated comedy, which sounds like it could be fun, but I won't hold my breath.

Check This Out: Teaser Poster for The Vampire's Assistant
Oh no, even more vampires? Cinematical has debuted the teaser poster for The Vampire's Assistant, previously known as Cirque du Freak, the movie based on the book series of the same name. I actually don't like this new title at all, it's too easily confused with The Vampire Diaries (the new TV show), and I thought Cirque du Freak was much more unique and easily recognizable, but alas, I don't work for Universal. Additionally, this poster, while it does look sleek, is missing John C. Reilly or anything that makes it look truly vampirish in any way. All-in-all an early failure, I think, but that's not too uncommon for Universal.

Don't Watch: Tucker Max' I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell Trailer
Freestyle Releasing has debuted the first green band trailer for Tucker Max' I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell today and it's worst than I could've ever imagined. You see, this movie is an adaptation of one of the many disgusting stories told by Tucker Max, one of this world's biggest idiots who has somehow made it big by writing about debauchery and belligerence. Of course, by saying that, he's probably going to hunt me down, but who cares. I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell looks about as amateur as anything I've ever seen. No wonder the studios all stayed away from this - it shouldn't have ever been made. Watch it only if you want.

John August Adapting 'How I Became a Famous Novelist'
A great announcement tonight from one of the most beloved screenwriters in Hollywood. John August has optioned Steve Hely's novel "How I Became a Famous Novelist" and will adapt and potentially direct the project. August, who is finishing up screenplays for Preacher and Dark Shadows, also previously wrote Go, Charlie's Angels, Big Fish, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Corpse Bride. He broke into directing in 2007 with The Nines but hasn't slated any other directorial projects since. While he does have a lot of good scripts in the works, I'm excited to see him take on a more personal project like this once again!

Hugh Jackman to Star in 'The Greatest Showman on Earth' Musical
Don't you just love Hollywood? Last month we wrote about a new project Columbia had in the works that was based on the life of P.T. Barnum, who as we all know brought us "The Greatest Show on Earth!" Well, Fox has announced (via Variety) that Hugh Jackman is attached to play P.T. Barnum in The Greatest Showman on Earth, their own original contemporary musical. Laurence Mark (Dreamgirls, Julie & Julia) is producing with Jenny Bicks (What a Girl Wants) writing the script. I'm guessing Columbia is a bit pissed right now, because they can't really compete with a musical starring Hugh Jackman, now can they?
