Just Like Barbie, Daniel Craig Now Has a Dream House, Too

Daniel Craig

By now, we're all used to British actor Daniel Craig striking fear into the hearts of terrorists as super spy James Bond.  But Variety reports that Craig will soon be the victim of terror in an upcoming Jim Sheridan (of the upcoming film Brothers) directed psychological thriller titled Dream House.  The story follows a New York publishing executive who moves his family to a new home in a small New England town. But the housewarming is anything but pleasant when they discover that a grisly murder may have left behind a few haunting residents in the house. Shooting starts January with Universal distributing sometime next year.

Must Watch: Full-Length Trailer for Agora with Rachel Weisz

Agora Trailer

We just discovered the full-length trailer on the beautiful official website for Alejandro Amenábar's Agora (thanks to reader Emurion) that played at the Cannes Film Festival (read my review) and is also showing up in Toronto next month. I'm still amazed that this film hasn't been picked up by a distributor, as it's a shoo-in for a production design Oscar, or at least worthy of winning a few technical awards. If you have the chance to see it, I suggest you do, it's a fascinating story and absolutely amazing to watch, as there is so much detail in the design work. The writing is a little bit rough and it's a long, two-part story, but overall I enjoyed it.

Michael Moore's Capitalism: A Love Story Gets a Nifty Poster

Michael Moore

Overture has unveiled the poster for Michael Moore's new documentary Capitalism: A Love Story over on Fandango today. We featured the full theatrical trailer for this doc exactly a week ago. Fandango says it kind of looks like a Saul Bass-style poster, but I wouldn't say that, it just looks like some simple modern vector art. Though it still does look good and I prefer this design much more over plenty of the ugly floating head posters these days. And compared to the poster for Sicko, Michael Moore himself is only featured in the corner this time. At least that might help minimize all the hate he gets on a normal basis. Anyway, enjoy!

Three New 2012 Banners - Will Destruction Sell Audiences?

New 2012 Banners

Yesterday we featured a brand new Japanese trailer for Roland Emmerich's 2012, which seems to have more death and destruction than we've ever seen before. Today Empire has three new display banners for 2012 designed to be displayed in movie theater lobbies around the country. At first I was just going to say they look pretty detailed, but then I started wondering, will destruction really sell this movie? All of the advertising for 2012 (which was heavily designed by Emmerich himself) has pretty much been all about the destruction - we haven't seen John Cusack or Amanda Peet's face anywhere. But will that sell audiences?

The Weekly Moviegoer - Marketing the Theatrical Experience

Movie Flames in 3D

If you've seen the trailer for the upcoming fourth Final Destination movie, you know it looks pretty terrible. Not quite as bad as the third Final Destination movie, but not nearly as good as the first two. You also know that it looks to be a recycled plot without having even the slightest connection to the rest of the franchise. And last but not least, you're aware that it pretty much already shows us all, or at least the majority, of the Rube Goldberg-type kills featured in the movie. But there's still a chance you're going to see it anyway, because you haven't seen any of it in 3-D, just as the tagline says: "Death saved the best for 3D!"

Worth Watching: English Trailer for Bong Joon-ho's Mother

Mother Trailer

Don't let that title deceive you, this is actually fantastic Korean film. Mother is the latest film from The Host director Bong Joon-ho. After an asocial loser is framed as the perpetrator of a horrific murder, his hard-headed mother goes on the hunt to find the real killer in order to keep her son from going to prison. I got to see this in Cannes back in May and I actually enjoyed it a lot more than Park Chan-wook's Thirst, to make a comparison. Believe it or not, it's actually as crazy as any Park Chan-wook film, but in a much different way. Bong Joon-ho is a brilliant filmmaker and I highly suggest everyone keep an eye on this.

Steven Spielberg Developing a Michael Crichton Adaptation!

Steven Spielberg - Pirate Latitudes

Steven Spielberg might direct another Michael Crichton novel again like he did 16 years ago with Jurassic Park. USA Today reports that Spielberg is developing a film out of a posthumously published novel by the late Michael Crichton called Pirate Latitudes set to hit shelves November (Amazon). In addition to Spielberg coming on-board, screenwriter David Koepp, who adapted Crichton's Jurassic Park and The Lost World, and also wrote Mission: Impossible, Spider-Man, and War of the Worlds, is penning the screenplay. "Michael wrote a real page-turner that already seems suited for the big screen," Spielberg said.

Christensen, Newton, Leguizamo in Vanishing on Seventh Street

Hayden Christensen - Thandie Newton - John Leguizamo

The Machinist and Transsiberian director Brad Anderson will start shooting his next feature in October called Vanishing on Seventh Street. The screenplay, co-written by Anderson and Anthony Jaswinski (Killing Time), is set in a once-thriving city where shadowy forms cause residents to inexplicably disappear. Five survivors fight to stay alive while grappling with the meaning of existence. Hayden Christensen has signed on to star and Thandie Newton and John Leguizamo are in negotiations to star in the thriller, which is being produced independently. Shooting will take place in the "once-thriving" city of Detroit.

Mike Leigh Starts Shooting His Next Project in London

Mike Leigh

English filmmaker Mike Leigh has started production on his next new film following the Oscar nominated film Happy-Go-Lucky, which received heaps of critical acclaim. The project is untitled and Leigh is keeping a lid on plot details (much like Woody Allen), but we do know who's in the cast: Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Taking Woodstock), Jim Broadbent (Hot Fuzz, The Damned United, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince), Philip Davis (Vera Drake, Cassandra's Dream), David Bradley (Filch in Harry Potter) and Stuart McQuarrie (28 Days Later, "The Bill"). Quite an impressive English cast.

Worth Watching: The Tournament Trailer with Ving Rhames

The Tournament Trailer

Yet another worth watching trailer that I stumbled across today (thanks to Collider). The Tournament comes from director Scott Mann and stars a few notable actors like Ving Rhames and Robert Carlyle. The tagline for this reads: "Every seven years the world's greatest assassins gather... Only one will survive." It's sort of a tournament for assassins set in an "unsuspecting town" and Carlyle's character gets involved because he accidentally swallows a tracking beacon from one of them. It's not the greatest plot, but it does look like it has a lot of awesome action, and that's what really counts the most. Anyway, fire this trailer up!

Creepy Crazy New Photos from Bruce Willis' Surrogates

Surrogates Photos

Call me crazy, but I'm not really looking forward to Surrogates. The concept is intriguing, I'll admit, but the trailer and all the footage I've seen from has looked terrible. Plus, some of this imagery is just so creepy or even odd, that I just can't get into it, I'd rather not look at it than show any interest. But that's just me, as I know there are a lot of people excited for it, and I haven't featured much from it in a while. Disney has released a small batch of new photos from the film that caught my eye (as there are a lot of new photos from tons of movies this week). Check them out and read on for info on a new Breaking Benjamin music video.

First Look: New Avatar Na'vi Photos are Worth Checking Out

Stephen Lang in Avatar

I'm trying to take a break from covering Avatar to give it some time to breathe and for it to soak in with everyone, but Empire busted out their own special Avatar issue this week that features some great new photos inside that I couldn't pass up. Unfortunately since the photos aren't online, MarketSaw had to scan them straight out of the magazine, but they still look pretty damn good. Not only do we get to see what Sigourney Weaver looks like as a Na'vi, but there are better shots of Sam Worthington as a Na'vi, the beautiful Zoe Saldana as Neytiri, and Stephen Lang as the badass Col. Quaritch (above). Check 'em out!
