And now it's here, in theaters, no longer just a rumor he keeps bringing up. But how is it? Tarantino's best movie to date? Or his worst? Is it too long or too confusing? How are the performances from the ensemble cast that includes both big actors and unknowns? Is it entertaining? Sherlock Holmes Viral Has Been Around Since Comic-Con?

Mr. Holmes Viral

A few days ago we ran an article looking at a new viral marketing game for Sherlock Holmes. I wrote that "Warner Brothers has kicked off their viral" with a website located at 94.236.57.221 that essentially was a glorified sign-up form. It turns out, thanks to some updates from our good friends at MovieViral.com and Unfiction, that this viral has actually been around since Comic-Con, remarkably. It looks like Warner Bros' attempt to kick it off at the Con failed. The only reason its gaining traction now is because @wbpictures tweeted it out and I was told by others to check it out. Oh and some other websites got cards in the mail.

Official Trailer for Michael Cera's Youth in Revolt Arrives

Youth in Revolt Trailer

The Weinstein Company has debuted the first trailer for Michael Cera's Youth in Revolt today on AOL. The movie is about a teenage kid who falls in a love with a girl he can't have but decides to go to lengths to win over her heart. I was going to complain about how tired I am of seeing Michael Cera act the same damn way in every movie, but thought otherwise after he introduces his "supplementary persona named Francois Dillinger." I'm probably going to get some flack for this, but I love that character. It looks like Cera really can act and that other persona just looks hilarious. I was actually laughing out loud during this. Enjoy!

Brandon's Word: Inglourious Basterds is a Masterpiece

Inglourious Basterds

More often than not, Quentin Tarantino is like a very able boxer who throws the same punch time after time. After the first, second, and third haymaker -- one can predict what the fourth and fifth and sixth will be. As an opponent of Tarantino's, I thought I had him and his latest film, the WWII-set Inglourious Basterds, pegged as just that -- another wild haymaker. But just another haymaker it is not. Inglourious Basterds is, instead, a precise jab to the nose, a swift uppercut to the chin, and a brain-rattling hook to the jaw. It's Quentin Tarantino's knockout punch. And it lands hard. Read on for Brandon's review!

Paramount Bumps Scorsese's Shutter Island to February 2010!

Shutter Island

Whoa, I did not see this coming! Nikki Finke is reporting that Paramount has bumped Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island from its original October 2nd release all the way to February of 2010 next year! The reason? Money, of course. "I hear that Paramount told the filmmakers it doesn't have the financing in 2009 to spend the $50M to $60M necessary to market a big awards pic like this." And yet somehow they think that they'll get Oscar consideration in February? "That's when Silence Of The Lambs came out back in 1991 and it won the Oscar." I just can't believe they think it'll do well in February, but I guess we'll find out.

Will There Be a Terminator 5? Does Anyone Even Care?

Terminator

The "talk of the town" this week (besides Avatar) is that the Terminator franchise might be on its last legs. Despite its lackluster performance, the real problems now lie in lawsuits and financial troubles surrounding The Halcyon Company, which picked up the Terminator rights a few years ago. Ben Fritz at the LA Times has a great write-up on the legal issues, which seem to only get worse each and every day. It doesn't help that "no one" is really that interested in seeing more Terminator movies after Terminator Salvation was so bad. So will we even see a Terminator 5? At this point, no one really knows, but it's not looking good.

Billy Bob Thornton Joins the Boxing Drama Pound for Pound

Billy Bob Thornton

If there's one genre that has consistently reeled in audiences, but remained mostly unchanged for decades, it's the sports drama. Athletes facing adversity and overcoming obstacles to an inspirational soundtrack never fails to warm our hearts. While the most common of these sports tales is that of the struggling football team, perhaps the second most popular sports arena lies within the boxing ring. THR reports that Billy Bob Thornton will be the next actor going the rounds in Pound for Pound, an indie boxing drama from F.X. Toole, the same author responsible for the book that was adapted into Eastwood's Million Dollar Baby.

Another New Screenwriter Hired for Universal's Bourne 4

Jason Bourne

What is it with Hollywood these days? Why are they cycling through so many different writers on fourth movies? Spider-Man 4 has gone through three writers, now the new Bourne movie is up to at least two (not including others we don't know about). THR has announced that Josh Zetumer, an up-and-coming writer also assigned to Peter Berg's Dune remake, was hired to write a Bourne 4 script for Universal. Originally, Bourne Ultimatum writer George Nolfi had been brought back on to write the next screenplay, apparently he didn't finish enough of the script in time. Zetumer's version is being described as a "parallel script."

It's the moment you've all been waiting for, some 10 years in the making! The first official teaser trailer for James Cameron's Avatar debuted this morning on Apple. After years and years of waiting and hearing all about the groundbreaking technology that Cameron has been using, we finally get to see what the world on Pandora looks like, and it's as awe-inspiring and amazing as I'd imagined. Bryan Singer Interested in Excalibur & Maybe More X-Men?

Bryan Singer

Don't get your hopes up about X-Men yet. And no, we're not talking about the Wolverine sequel, rather the X-Men: First Class movie that Fox has been nurturing for a little while. First and foremost, Bryan Singer has closed a rights deal to remake the 1981 movie Excalibur, potentially the same remake that Warren Ellis is writing the script for, but it won't be his next project. Instead, word is that Singer will next direct New Line's Jack the Giant Killer. However, hidden in the Variety story is this tidbit: "At the same time, Singer has been flirting with directing X-Men: First Class." Thought it sounds like he's just teasing us about that.

Catherine Hardwicke Lands Red Riding Hood & 21 Jump Street

Catherine Hardwicke

It looks like Twilight might have really helped her career after all. Catherine Hardwicke has landed two new upcoming projects - the Warner Brothers reboot of Little Red Riding Hood and Jonah Hill's 21 Jump Street movie, as reported by the Risky Biz Blog today. We've already heard about both projects before, and both of them sound fairly interesting. However, Hardwicke will have to choose between those two and a third project, the the contemporary Hamlet adaptation she's developing with Emile Hirsch, because all three are priority projects for their respective studios and she has to choose only one next year.

Sherlock Holmes Goes Viral - Do Not Under-Estimate It!

Sherlock Holmes Viral

I definitely didn't see this coming, but it actually makes a lot of sense. Warner Brothers has kicked off their viral for Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes with a nifty little website and sign-up form. I'm not sure if this came from other sources, but I first noticed on Twitter this URL: http://94.236.57.221. The mysterious IP points to a page with five boxes containing question marks. Find out the secret password (answer is Irene referring to Rachel McAdams' character Irene Adler) and you'll be shown a short video of a weird hooded man. From there it shows you a sign-up page - and Sherlock Holmes needs your help, so sign right up!
