Interview: Inglourious Basterds' Donny Donowitz - Eli Roth

Eli Roth

Who would've thought that the director of Hostel would go on to star as the unforgettable "Bear Jew" in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds? Not only did it happen, but he kicks ass in the role. Last week I sat down with Eli Roth to talk about his work in Basterds, what it's like acting, what he's learned from working with Tarantino, and if he's getting offers for more roles (and if he'll even take them). A lot of people have a grudge against Roth (or just don't like him), but he's not a bad guy and I enjoyed talking with him. So without further ado, read on for my full interview with Sgt. Donny Donowitz aka The Bear Jew himself.

Mad Men's Jon Hamm Also Joins the Sucker Punch Cast

Jon Hamm

Zack Snyder certainly had his fair share of problems early on wrangling a cast for his latest project Sucker Punch. Amanda Seyfried was supposed to play the lead Baby Doll, then dropped out only to be replaced later by Emily Browning and not long after that both Emma Stone and Evan Rachel Wood left the project due to "scheduling conflicts." Now THR tells us that a bit of good fortune has finally been sent Snyder's way in the form of "Mad Men" actor Jon Hamm being the first male to join the, thus far, all-female cast that also includes Abbie Cornish, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone and Carla Gugino most recently.

Darren Bousman Picks Jaime King to Lead Mother's Day Cast

Jaime King

Darren Lynn Bousman has chosen a cast for his Mother's Day remake, which starts shooting next month in Winnipeg. Sin City actress Jaime King has joined the cast as the "woman of the house" with X-Men's Shawn Ashmore and Sorority Row's Briana Evigan as her guests. Charles Kaufman's original 1980 Troma cult classic revolved around three friends who run afoul of two brothers who engage in murder and rape to impress their deranged mother. The new version is being remolded as a psychological thriller in which the wicked family returns to the house where they grew up to terrorize the new owners and guests.

Shoot 'Em Up's Michael Davis Directing an Outland Remake

Outland

Warner Brothers and Hollywood Gang Productions, lead by Gianni Nunnari, are developing a remake of the 1981 Sean Connery sci-fi movie Outland that was written and directed by Peter Hyams. Shoot 'Em Up director Michael Davis has been hired to direct, while newcomer Chad St. John will write the screenplay. The drama revolves around a police marshal stationed at a remote mining colony on Jupiter's moon Io, where he uncovers a murderous conspiracy threatening the entire Outland with collapse. "We're staying true to the thematic heart of Outland while expanding the space frontier concept," Davis said of the remake.

IMDb's Power of Film: Top Rated Films of the Millennium

IMDb's Power of Film

To be honest, this list isn't that shocking or surprising, it's just interesting to see what's on it, as is always the case. IMDb has launched some sort of new feature as part of their Power of Film series called The Top Rated Films of the New Millennium, "looking at the 15 films made since 2000 that our users have rated as the best of the new millennium." Essentially it's a filtered version of the IMDb Top 250 featuring only films made during or after the year 2000. Why they're doing this, I don't know? Though I suggest you check out the full list and argue about what should, and shouldn't, be on here, because that's only normal!

Christopher Mintz-Plasse & Common Cinemash Training Day

Training Day Cinemash

The final Cinemash video we'll be featuring! On his first day as a narcotics officer, a rookie (Common) gets played by an evil veteran cop (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), whose ideas of right and wrong are all messed up. It's time for Mean Magazine to take on Training Day! This may not be the best acting, but it's hilarious to watch, simply because McLovin' is 20 years old and looks nerdy (even with a fake beard) and Common is 37 and looks like a badass, and yet he's supposed to be the rookie cop? Oh it's great, just great. I really don't know how they pulled this off, but it's so damn funny. Another Cinemash classic. Sit back, relax, and enjoy!

Another Ingenious Saw VI Poster Debuts - 'Trust In Him'

Saw VI Poster

Trust in him? Trust in Jigsaw? Yes! ShockTillYouDrop has debuted another new teaser poster for Saw VI that doesn't have much on it - except for a rad par of boxing glove hands and that tricky tagline we just mentioned. I'm glad we're back to the norm with these posters. I hated the first motion poster for Saw VI, I liked the second Comic-Con one featuring a brand new trap on it, but this one definitely shows they're back in business. It's a lot like the poster for Saw V, that had some guy wearing a Jigsaw mask on it. Now they've made Jigsaw gloves, which is freakin' creepy and awesome. I love that they're pushing the MPAA limits.

Hobbit Rumors: Radcliffe Says No Way, Three Movies in 3D?

Guillermo del Toro - The Hobbit

We'll probably be hearing a lot of rumors about The Hobbit for the next few years, but we'll be here to try and decipher the truth from the bullsh*t. The first bit of news is not actually a rumor, but a confirmation from Daniel Radcliffe himself (via Hero Complex) that he won't be in The Hobbit. "I'd have to say, 'Thanks but no thanks,' not that anyone has asked me," he says. "Whatever I do next, I don't think there will be any wizards in it!" Now the rumor side of this is with Radcliffe out, that still leaves James McAvoy and David Tennant still in the running to play Bilbo, at least according to this LA Times article from July, right?

First Look: Ryan Reynolds in His One-Man Thriller Buried

Ryan Reynolds and Rodrigo Cortés

Before Ryan Reynolds goes on to play Hal Jordan in the Green Lantern movie and Wade Wilson (again) in the Deadpool spin-off, he'll finish shooting an indie thriller called Buried that he decided to take on to challenge his acting skills. We talked about the project a few times earlier this year, mainly because it was discovered that this is actually a one-man show, taking place entirely inside the confines of coffin, where Reynolds awakens buried alive. Thanks to Twitch we have two photos from the indie production, one of Reynolds (above) talking with Spanish director Rodrigo Cortés, and one of the actual view inside the coffin.

First US Poster for Jason Reitman's Up in the Air Lands!

Up in the Air Poster

Oh hell yes! Empire has debuted the first official poster for Jason Reitman's Up in the Air today. It's a lot different than the teaser poster we saw a few months back on display at CinExpo, but it's still a great design. This is probably my most anticipated non-sci-fi movie left this year and thankfully I'll have the chance to see up at the Toronto Film Festival next month. I don't even care that the three of them look Photoshopped, this poster just makes me so excited. I've done so much traveling in my life, that a movie about a businessman whose life is spent "in the air," made by the guy who did Thank You for Smoking, is just plain awesome.

Neill Blomkamp Would Love to Return for a District 9 Sequel

District 9

It's pretty much inevitable that we'll see a sequel to District 9. The film made an impressive $37.3 million over the weekend, not only surpassing expectations, but making more than its entire budget (not including marketing costs). And the story also sets up a sequel perfectly (we won't say how until below to prevent spoilers) in the end. But like with J.J. Abrams and Cloverfield, will Peter Jackson put a hold on it until they come up with a story that's satisfactory? Well, Neill Blomkamp already seems quite excited to go back, as he recently told EW: "I would do anything to go back to the world of District 9 again. Or District 10."
