Rashida Jones & Chris Messina to Star in Indie 'Monogamy'
September 1, 2009
by Alex Billington
Two of my favorite up-and-coming underrated actors are starring together in an indie romantic comedy. Rashida Jones and Chris Messina will star in Monogamy, which will be the feature directing debut of Murderball co-director Dana Adam Shapiro. This is described as a "cautionary tale about sex, photography and fear of marriage," that will center on a young couple's relationship and its trials. The screenplay was co-written by Shapiro and Evan Wiener. Production on Monogamy apparently already started this summer in New York. The hope is to have it shot and ready to hit the festival circuit in early 2010 (e.g. Sundance).
I first discovered Chris Messina in another little-seen indie romantic comedy called Ira & Abby. He's one of those character actors who takes on lots of roles as the husband or boyfriend and never really gets noticed. But ever since seeing that, I've been following him closely, as he's an incredibly talented actor just waiting to break out. He just appeared in both Away We Go and Julie & Julia. As for Rashida Jones, my love for her grew with I Love You Man, where she did a great job playing a supporting actress in a movie that was quite manly. She also starred on "The Office" before and is currently on "Parks and Recreation." Sounds good!
