Wonderful New Posters: Where the Wild Things Are & The Road

Instead of debuting any good trailers today, Hollywood has instead debuted a handful of new posters. We already featured the Bad Lieutenant poster earlier today and debuted the Fantastic Mr. Fox poster as well. Warner Brothers has also debuted one final poster for Spike Jonze's Where the Wild Things Are, and The Weinstein Company has debuted two gorgeous posters for John Hillcoat's The Road, which is showing at Telluride this weekend. That poster for Wild Things really captures all the childhood wonder of the film. And these two posters for The Road really capture all the bleakness of that film. Check them out below!
A post-apocalyptic tale of a man (Viggo Mortensen) and his son trying to survive by any means possible.
The Road is directed by Australian filmmaker John Hillcoat, of To Have and to Hold and the western The Proposition previously. The screenplay was adapted by Joe Penhall (Enduring Love, The Undertaker) and is based on Cormac McCarthy's novel of the same name. After delaying the film for more than a year, The Weinstein Company will now officially be bring The Road to theaters on October 16th later this year.

Where the Wild Things Are is directed by visionary filmmaker Spike Jonze, of great films like Being John Malkovich and Adaptation previously as well as numerous famous music videos as well. The screenplay was co-written by Spike Jonze and author Dave Eggers, a former Salon editor who also wrote Sam Mendes' Away We Go this year. This is based on Maurice Sendak's beloved children's book of the same name. Warner Brothers will finally bringing Where the Wild Things Are to theaters everywhere in October 16th.

I like the second poster for the Road where their backs are turned, it gives off a lot of elements that hopefully the film will deliver.

I don't think the poster's for the road do the books visual descriptions justice! I recently read 'The Road' and to my surprise, loved it (I hate reading fiction….ironically I'd much rather watch a movie). I caught a few clips from the film that were posted online and the dialogue was almost word for word from the book….so hopefully they've stuck to the original material pretty closely because the story really is based more on the audience coming to grips with this post apocalyptic world and what you would value more than it is about the actual characters in the story (which may be why they were never given names?) If they try to spruce this story up by adding unnecessary action I think the movie will get lost in itself.
With that said the visuals in this movie had better be pretty spectacular or this movie may be kinda dull because the book isn't overly exciting, but somehow the author makes a story about a man and his son walking along a road essentially trying not to die…. incredibly interesting. The first poster where you can see Mortenson's face is more compelling to me because the visuals of emotion are going to be important in this film, and you can see despair on his face in that picture.
Is it just me or was there another trailer for this movie released sometime last year that was different than the trailer they just released recently. I thought I remembered seeing a preview that was a lot more open ended than the over dramatic one they just released.

Don't care about The Road. Any movie with Charlize Theron is guaranteed to be uninteresting. Now, WTWTA is a must see for me. When I first saw the trailer it reminded me of Jim Henson's The Storyteller - one of my childhood favorite TV shows.
